I have another post about my tires here in the Tire & Wheel forum, I was going to buy some really cheap Goodyear tires. Today I bought these BFG Long Trail Tours instead, and they only cost $91.00 more than the El Cheapo Goodyear Wrangler Radials I had been considering. I had a Tire Kingdom $40.00 off a set of 4 coupon and got them for $474.04 out the door. I really like these BFG's, they are quiet as a whisper and I can actually hear my radio at a normal volume level now. These Long Trails run smooth and have a nice and firm, very comfortable ride quality. They have done great when going over bumps and cracks in the road so far. I know they are brand new but I can't say enough good things about these tires. They look great too:

I hope my tire decision ordeal is finally over. I also hope to get better MPG with these new BFG's. The tread pattern sure looks like it would do better on MPG. My old Firestone Destination LE's had a much more agressive tread pattern and had great traction but I only got about 17 to 18 MPG on those. I will keep them at 35 psi and not go monkeying around with the psi like I did with my previous tires. I ran those at 44 psi for a while trying to get better MPG, and it did a little better on gas but it also wore out the center treads and cupped the tires, which contributed to the bad road noise I had with my old tires. I will also rotate these new Long Trails on a cross pattern so they should wear better and last longer.

My truck drives, steers and handles like a new truck now. I know these BFG's will be great tires. If I read the date codes right, they were made in the second week of September 2010. Add they are made here in the USA too, which means a lot to me.

I love the new tire smell.

very nice man. I have been thinking about putting those on my blazer but im torn between them and the rugged trails.

I know, it's kinda like you forget how well it handled when it was new, and as the old tires wore down you don't notice the ride quality diminishing, then you get new tires and BAMM you're back in the saddle again!! Very nice looking tires

Thanks everybody. I like these BFG's a lot and I will do my best to make sure they last a very long time. I test drove it today and only got up to about 60 MPH but the truck rode and drove as smooth as glass. It should do just as well at 70-75 MPH out on the interstate next week when I go back to work. So far they are turning out to be a real good tire, especially for the price I paid for them. I would recommend the Long Trails to anyone with a pickup truck.
 
Good luck with those.. make sure your alignment is up to par. We have 40k on ours and I'm hoping to make it to 50k. Defiantly won't make it to 60k as they claim. Had regular Long Trails years ago and they held up better. May go with Yokohama or Kumho's next but I think the alignment and over airing the tires did it for those.

The Long Trails are better than the Rugged Trails. My 2006 explorer had the Rugged trails as OEM.Wore out pretty fast.

Thanks. I love my truck too and I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. My truck is like an old and trusted friend and it has never let me down or left me walking. You can still find Second Generation Dakota's out there for sale and some of those will still have decent mileage. They made my version up until the 2005 model year. I am a member on www.dodgeforum.com and they have separate generation specific forums there and every now and then a Second Gen Dakota is listed for sale.

I stayed home today, trying to get over a bad cold so I didn't drive my truck today. We have an 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms here tomorrow and tomorrow is the MLK holiday for me so if it does rain hard enough I will get out in it and see how these new BFG's handle it. I am sure they will do just fine.

I don't know about the Rugged Trails, I am sure they are a good tire too but I would recommend these Long Trail Tours to anyone who needs a good truck/SUV tire. Tire Kingdom did me right on the price too.
 
My Frontier had them as OEM. I replaced them at 35,000. They wore in the centers pretty bad. I kept them at 35 PSI and kept up on rotations. Keep an eye on how they wear.

They were nice tires otherwise. Decent in all conditions. Dry, wet, and snow.
 
Your Frontier, like mine, has the BFG Radial Long Trails. These are the BFG Long Trail Tours.

I really like the look of the Tours much better than the Radial Long Trails. More independent blocks and much, much more sipes. These should be really good tires!
 
I read here about the problems and differences between the Long Trail Tour and Radial Long Trail. Tire Kingdom and Discount Tire no longer sell the Radial Long Trail because of the problems people had with that tire. I will keep my tires rotated on schedule and keep them at 35 psi and will definitely keep an eye on tread wear. Most people who wrote reviews on tirerack.com have gotten average to better than average mileage and wear from these Long Trail Tours. I don't know if I will get the rated 60K from mine, I hope I do but I will not be disappointed as long as I can get 45K to 50K. I think the manufacturer puts their treadwear rating on the tire but it really depends on the vehicle the tire is installed on, how the vehicle is used, how it is driven, the condition of the road where you drive and the mechanical/phsyical/suspension conditions of the vehicle.

I probably could have gotten to 50K, maybe a few more miles on my old Firestones, even though the outer treads were very close to the wear bars and the inner treads were sitting on the wear bars. I did not want to take a chance on safety, and they were very loud. I knew I was going to have to buy new tires soon. I also felt like I was getting a very good price on these BFG's so I bought them before the Tire Kingdom Store Manager had a chance to change his mind. I did a lot of shopping and calling tire stores and internet research before I bought these BFG's. My tire decision was literally keeping me awake at night.

I have had a bad cold the last 2 days so I have not driven any more on my new BFG's. They did great on the 15 or 20 miles I put on them Saturday. If I can get even just a little better MPG with them I will be very glad. As long as I take good care of them and keep my truck in good shape, I am sure these BFG's will do just fine.
 
In November I bought the BFG Long Trail T/A Tour's for my 2002 F-150 Supercab long bed to replace the worn Bridgestone Dueler Revo's. The BFG's ride a lot nicer and so far have done the same or better in the winter snow as the Revo's, even when the Revo's were new. I got only 35,000 miles out of the Bridgestone's even rotating them 5,000 miles as per Ford's rotation schematic in the owner's manual. I always kept the tire pressure at factory recommended spec's, increased a bit for the winter temps. The Revo's wore evenly, but they just wore down.

Those BFGs came on our 2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT 4x4 and we got 60k out of the first four tires. We replaced them with the same tire (BFG Long Trail).

We have had to no problem going through a foot of snow with these up steep hills in 4x4. Good choice.

These are made in the USA too which is a plus.

I went back to work today, truck did just fine on the highway, it has a very smooth and comfortable ride and it did just the same on the interstate at 70-72 MPH. These BFG's run very quiet and smooth for a truck tire. Now I just need to run out a couple tanks of gas and see what happens with the MPG.

The Long Trail Tours are different, and supposed to be much better than the original (OEM) Long Trails.
