I can't find it right now (Castrol's site is a mess), but I saw a new PDS (April 2008) for Castrol Syntec oils, and it now lists a new 0W-20 grade.

Castrols PDS's don't provide many details, but I do remember it was 8.8 cst @100C, so a touch lighter than the 5W-20 grade (9.0 cst).

Just in case anyone is interested.....

I'm suprised there isn't more interest in this new grade of oil...I know Syntec isn't the 'favourite' on here, but it does do fairly well.....

Notice all oil companies are coming out with 0W-20 formulations? PP, Synpower Amsoil, M1, Syntec...lots to chose from!

I think it's good news. The more viscosity grade choices, the better. I just don't use 20 weight oils so it's a passing interest to me.

They've had 0w-20 overseas since 1998. I dunno why it's taken so long for Catrol USA to get it.

Mobil was the first 0w20 in the U.S. about 6 years ago or so.

Gary was that Fuchs that was out in 98?

Castrol Formula SLX 0w-20 ..it's on their Euro "history" page ...in any language except English. It's also called Eco Professional in Japan ..although I can't find spec sheets on any of them.

Sure looks like it.

VI of 137. Not much higher than Bruce's 0w-10 (132)

PP 0w-20 is 171

My sister has a Honda Civic with the 1.7 liter 4 cylinder that calls for 5w-20. Maybe I'll use Castrol Syntec in it for her.

ok, it's late at night and i am tired, but am i missing something here?

how does low temp cranking viscosity relate to MRV?
the low temp pumping vis max seems to just parrot the SAE numbers...

does it seem like Product DATA Sheets seem to have less DATA than they used to??

We could only wish we would get somthing like German SLX LL 1, but it will be just an API/Honda/FoMoCo targeted product.

If it WERE German Syntec low HT/HS, I'd pour all my old oil stash down the toilet.

Sunfire - thats it! Thanks for finding it!

Gary - very interesting points - this looks like a very stable, low-weight oil......

Cheetah - Castrol just seems to post the 'max specs' the oil has to fall under, NOT the actual values the oil may put out....

Absolutely. If your vehicle is spec'd for it then it will be fine. I'm using mobil 1 0w-20 AFE in my hemi right now. No problems at all to report and trust me I'd love to find fault with mobil 1.
