New Snow Blower

I am going to purchase a new Ariens 624E snow blower with a
6 H.P. OHV Techumseh Snow King Engine. The dealer says to use
conventional 5w30 Oil. My thought is Pennzoil Platinum 5w30
for the added protection. How long should I wait before switching
to PP ??. Are there any better suggestions or is this a
good plan ??

That is a very good plan. Run what's in there for about 5 hours then change it. Then run the PP for the rest of the season. It works great in those Techumseh Snow King Engines.

Congrats on new snow blower. I have a Tecumseh Sno-King myself, but with the old school LH 5.5hp engine in it. Mine is two years old and it works great. I have used Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in it and it worked well. I read my owner's manual with it and they recommend 0w30 for anything below -20F, which doesn't happen too often, but it did happen a few times last year. A few days ago I fired her up from her winter slumber and filled her with some spare AMSOIL Signature Series 0w30 I had on hand, so we'll see how that goes.

I don't think you can go wrong with Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 though. I have even run Amsoil ATV 0w-40 in it with no ill effects.

I had a Tec 8HP for 16 yrs and now a Honda 9HP Blower.

I use Mobil 1 5w30 and it works great.

If it get below zero that means that you let the engine warm up prior to putting a load on it. Synthetics have great sub-zero pour points.

If you lived in Alaska where the temps are always below zero then that's a different story.

Bubba, I'd snowblow the driveway a cpl times, then swap out to the Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. I've got the 7hp version of this engine. I bought it new in 2000. A great runner that starts on the 1st pull cold, hot or otherwise . You'll find it to be great on gas as well.

DO you have a Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 VOA?

Like JTK I also have the 7HP OHV version on my Troy-bilt, I've run 5W40 Castrol Syntec in it since new with no issues.
