Hey all,

Heard this on the way home and also found it on their website:

"NEW Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines have 20% more active cleaning agents than before."

"All three grades of the NEW Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasoline contain 20% more cleaning agents than before, helping protect engine’s intake valves and fuel injectors. No other gasoline protects your engine better!"

"With 20% more of the patented Shell Nitrogen Enriched Cleaning System, the new formula actively shields your engine from performance-robbing gunk."

Same price around here. (edit: or did you mean the rise in gas prices in general?)

I like this part:

"In modern engines, like direct injection and turbo-charged, fuel injectors are subject to greater heat and pressure, which can cause a breakdown of cleaning agents.

The Shell Nitrogen Enriched Cleaning System is designed to maintain thermal stability and work under extremely hot engine temperatures, actively protecting against performance-robbing gunk."

I prefer Chevron/Texaco with the Techron....when I can get it....like here in FL. I would take BP over Shell any day of the week....my vehicle runs better on BP than Shell and Shell is supposed to be a top tier gasoline.

I'm sure that Shell is a quality product and it is good that they have added extra detergents to all their grades of fuel, at least my feeling on this is that you are getting more for your money even if the price itself in general is still much too high.

^Does Shell or Chevron use their 'best' additives in their premium grade/octane or will it be in the mid-grades also, though diluted some?

All grades have the additives bumped up 20%.

The Premium has 5 times the mininum additive amount.

Their website still says that v power has "fi ve times more cleaning agents than required by federal standards" as it always has.
If "All three grades of the NEW Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasoline contain 20% more cleaning agents than before", shouldn't v power be around 6x more now?

Shells website used to say 2x more in regular/mid-grade, and 5x more in premium.
A lot of stations have blending pumps now that draw from both regular and premium to make mid-grade instead of having a 3rd tank to hold mid-grade like older stations do.

Around here it looks like every shell station has that setup. So 1/3rd premium (93 octane) blended with 2/3rd regular (87 octane) to make mid-grade (89 octane).
Can anybody that can think more clearly than me come up with a number over the federal minimum that mid-grade would be in this case? Assuming 2x more + 20% for 87 and 5x more +20% for 93? I'm gonna guess maybe a little over 3.5x more haha.

Down here Shell charges quite a bit more than their Top Tier competition. This is precisely why I don't buy Shell. Also, I can get 100% ethanol free Top Tier gas and it's still less than Shell---a no-brainer.

Shell is the exact same price as other local stations here.

Plus, mid-grade at most stations is the same price as regular grade.

My local Shell station has all grades of gas priced several cents per gallon lower than the Chevron or 76 stations, plus Ralph's grocery has a deal with Shell for a 10 cent per gallon discount with Ralphs bonus points which makes the price at Shell around 12 cents per gallon lower than Costco or the off brand stations.

In Wi, I would use Shell before BP because it seems to work better in my wifes V6 Santa Fe(it runs and idles better)... BP 93 was always used in my 03 Acura MDX and we had a lot of carbon issues in the head. Needless to say, I have not been impressed with BP gas since 2003 and try to avoid it. Its tough though, because BP is all over Wi and I have one of there 5% rebate cards. LOL...
