1839. I think they know what their doing. Still in business. I use their products with no problems in my old beaters. The engines idle smoother IMO. I don't use their oil, just their additives. I do see a difference. One of my beaters is 22 yrs old, the other is 12 yrs old with very high mileage.

I think they make great products, but impossible to get!
Just got to get set up good with a salesman. I honestly prefer it that way. I call the salesman with a need and he matches a product to it and it’s usually delivered in 2-3 days. I live 50 miles from the nearest Walmart. Just did an order today to restock for winter. 3-4 simple text messages and the stuff is on the way.

No salesman any where near here in the south. It's a mid-west thing.

You are in a small minority.

I have a rep in my area in the high desert west.

Used to use Schaeffer products almost exclusively years ago. However, cost and availability was why I went away from them.
In the early days of the site we talked a lot about Schaeffer Oils because Bob was a sales rep and I tried their blend in my 95 Formula for a little while but it ended up being more expensive than to just get a full synthetic off the shelf. So I failed to really see any benefit of using the blend, and the full synthetic Schaeffer Oil price put it into boutique territory and I’m not sure it was good enough to belong in that category.

I briefly looked at their gear oils and came to a similar conclusion. Their synthetic blend was pretty close to Amsoil Severe Gear, plus the Amsoil comes in pouches. Just decided on Amsoil.

I used their oils for a few years until I figured it was too much trouble and shipping prices were just foolish. You would think they could do something to make it easier for the masses to access their oils. Apparently they make enough to stay in business selling the majority to the farming and industrial customers in their area that us auto jockeys are not nearly enough of a customer base for them to change. They also must be doing somethings right to stay successful so many years.
