New S&W Model 60

Finally got my new Model 60 with 3' barrel SS Jframe. Put the S&W walnut factory grips on. What a beauty. But this pistol is super tight and the seams are machined so close you can barley see them. I am really impressed with the fit & finish.

I usually use G96 or Hoppes gun oil...but this is my first Stainless Steel revolver.

Any recommendations on lube?

Yeah, I already have a 638 aluminum 1.87" barrel .38+P and wanted a SS pistol with the 3" barrel for accuracy and the ability to shoot .357 PD ammo. Funny though...when the dog starts barking at 3:00AM I grab the 638 and go see what the ruckus is about.

Great gun . Similar to my sp101 Ruger. Just don't shoot .357 mag indoors in that thing if you ever want to hear right again! I always have .38+p in mine when using for protection indoors.

I have the exact same Mod 60 it is nice. I have an SP101 3 inch barrel as well. The SP 101 is just as nice but different. I have a 442 in my pocket now.

The 101 is huge for a 5 shot . B ut it is the choice for mags I would guess. My daughter has it now.

Yes the .357 mag is where the sp101 realy shines. With houge grips you can shoot as much .357 as you can afford and the recoil is very manageable, muzzle rise is not bad so you can shoot heavy loads pretty well.. Still conceals just fine IWB. If I want smaller and lighter I have a S&W 642 but it is not as "shootable"

I've never fooled around with a 101 so I have no personal experience. I do know that if I were getting something with more weight and bulk than a J frame Smith it would have 6 shots, or be an auto. Colt D Frames are pretty small for a 6 shot .38. I'd love to have a Detective Special if I could find a nice example for a good price.

+1 I have been looking for a DS but a nice one is going for $1-2000 on gunbroker. Way too much for me. You can get 3-4 jframes for that.

Good point. I best change out my ammo. But that is why I got a SS one because of the flexibility and durability.

I have an old Colombian police turn in Police Positive Special. If it were in better shape I'd cut the barrel down and carry it. I do have a 2 inch Colt but it's a Lawman MKIII. Just too big and heavy to carry, plus I wouldn't want to mess up the pretty bluing.

The gun has probably been shot a million times. It's not something I'd carry.

This..yea 25oz for the SP101 and 15 oz for the J frame. Wish I hadn't bought the SP101

I own both a 642 J-frame and an SP101. To me they are two different animals. Sure the J-frame carries better in a pocket but the SP shoots .357 with ease. Not really comparing apples to apples. My SP is my .357 Magnum belt gun , my J-frame will ride in a pocket or on my ankle. The 5 shot SP101 is thinner than a 6 shot revolver and works nicely IWB.

The aluminum J-frame in .357 is painfull to shoot and you have to be an expert to put multiple shots on target. The OP's Model 60 or the SP101 is a good choice for a small .357 but if you are only interested in .38 special then maybe the best choice is a lightweight J-frame.
The thing a lot of people like about the SP is they are pretty near indestructible.I also like the fact I put night sights on my SP. Can't do it on the 642.

I doubt I'll shoot much .357 with the 60. I got it to be a durable personal defense weapon and will load it with .38+P ammo like suggested.

I have a model 586 6" to shoot .357 all day if I want.
