Looking for a dexos approved for my non-turbo cruze (1.8).

APPARENTLY, the new QSUD save more fuel, how true is that????

or should I stick with the good old castrol syntec?

Price is the same at walmart

Thanks!

If your planning on adding extra MPG you will not get above 1 or maybe 2 regardless of the oil brand. IMO i would choosd the QSUD. In made my 2003 Lincoln Aviator Run smooth and quiet. Call me crazy but theres some about SOPUS products that makes the engine run smoother. Good quality oil? I want to believe so. But overall both oils are good choices.

+1 take the Pepsi challenge

Syntec clearly has the better additive package; QSUD clearly has the better base. (I am unaware that QSUD was recently reformulated or what changes were made.)

Since it is a new car and you are living in pretty far up North, I vote QSUD.

They are both very good, if the price is the same then the decision is simple for me.
Choose based on which manufacturer you find more acceptable:
- Shell aka SOPUS (Quaker State)
- BP (Castrol)

They just did a press release earlier this month. I'm not sure what changes may have been made either, but here's some of the info that Shell gave concerning the new QSUD.

Quaker State Introduces New Motor Oil

Quaker State recently introduced a new full-synthetic motor oil designed to give motorists a fuel-economy savings of an average of 5 cents per gallon while providing protection against friction-related wear.

The new full-synthetic additive package of Quaker State Ultimate Durability uses a proprietary moly formulation to help keep oil fresh, aiding fuel economy....The new Ultimate Durability motor oil contains additional anti-oxidation additives to fight engine oil aging as well as thermal and viscosity breakdown, helping to increase the overall length of an engine's life.

I would like to see a VOA on the new formula; maybe someone will get one before long. BTW it should be no surprise since my user is sopususer and I find their products to be of the highest quality, I vote QSUD as well.

I ve used qsud the past 210 oil changes in my hemi at 7000 mi oci. Runs smooth and silenced the infamous hemi tick. Its a SOPUS product so its quality oil. I called SOPUS and they said there is very little difference between PP and QUSD in layman terms its splitting hairs. One cleans a tad bit better I am guessing more detergent in the PP a part per million. They also said if it meets the manufacturer spec both oil is good for your vehicle. Depends on your personal preference. Usually QUSD is cheaper so i go with that. I don't use Castrol because of the whole XOM vs Castrol suit back in the day.

And here I was wondering why a recent UOA I did of some of the newer QSUD 10w30 had a moly content of 173 ppm, makes sense now. I guess I lucked out and chose a great oil
