New Prius...and free oil changes?

The normal OCi on this vehicle is like 10,000 miles is it not? so for them agreeing to do it at 5000 with conventional is a good deal, use it.

+1 They are going to use whatever oil is speced for your vehicle which I believe has to be at least a blend 0w-20. I just got my terrain changed at the dealership for free and they used AC Delco synblend Dexos. Personally I would use the free oil changes. At least that way they can't void the warranty if the maintenance was done by the dealership.
i told my dealer to keep the free oil changes on my 2015 malibu. im not worried about warranty denial, i keep all the receipts for my oil changes. plus the cap says to use 5w20 dexos but i use 0w20 because i found a TSB tht says i can use it for a top off and fill.
i dont think the dealer will use a conventional on your car, ur car requires a syn blend oil so they would not void the warranty by putting conventional oil in it.

I have taken all the free oil changes on my new vehicles.
Never had a problem. The Toyota dealer actually did a good,job about lubingmy drive shaft on the FJ cruiser as recommended.
I would recomend you take the free oil changed if they meet Toyotas spec for the vehicle. Mid they recomend 0w20 they should,use 0w20.
Once the freebies are past, you can change the oil if you still have a desire to tinker. It's an oil change, 5 of them is an inherent value. The car won't feel neglected if you have someone else do the labor. The car has no feelings.

We have a 2015 Prius. Our Toyota dealer uses 0w-20 TGMO, and the OCI is 10,000k. At 5,000 intervals they inspect the vehicle, top off fluids if needed and rotate tires only. Try reading your maintenance interval manual that comes with the vehicle. For an oil change etc. we are usually in and out in about a half hour.
To each their own on this subject. My 2015 Prius came with the same free maintenance that you describe... but I opted to skip. Maybe I'm weird, but I enjoy getting underneath my car to check things out myself... and the Prius is such an easy oil change - I can have it done in 20min with most of that time spent cleaning up after myself.
As someone else pointed out - you definitely DO NOT have to use their free maintenance to maintain warranty, but you should maintain any and all receipts for future "proof" of services performed. And as long as you use the proper grade of oil (0w20 in this case) with a correct oil filter - there's really not much to mess up.

Same thing for our 2013 Prius. I thought it was a good deal and let them do the service. Now that the offer has expired I do my own oil change with Mobil1 0W-20AFE or TGMO
