New Odyssey Group 24

Just checked about 30 minutes ago and it is pretty much reading the same as it did initially. Been in my cold garage since Saturday and Saturday night is when I took the charger off of it. So ~5 days and it staying relatively the same.

Same readings today.

I spoke with Odyssey tech support and they said that battery is old and they would send me a new one. I asked if I could get an ETA as to replacement and I didn't get a response. If it takes too long or they don't send I'm gonna either have to put this one in or try and return to Napa and get a fresh battery. However, since it is holding its charge and still has a 3 yr warranty, I'm not sure I really need to deal with that from Napa.

So, after not hearing back from Odyssey, I popped the battery back on the charger since it has been about a week, topped off then installed today. Interesting note is that the Legacy is supposed to have some type of sleeve over the battery and there was none. Maybe when Subaru replaced the battery 6 years ago they didn't put the sleeve back on. Oh well.... Not gonna worry about it. I will say that the odyssey has a lip at the bottom of the battery which is pushing it away from the battery tray. Because of this, the hook doesn't really "hook" but the hold down still screws in fine.

I replaced a friend's battery in their Lexus and had a sleeve as well. Curious what the purpose of them are? Or purely cosmetic?
My Tundra doesn't have one...never seen it in a BMW...

From what I understand, it is supposed to help insulate the battery from some of the engine heat. My Impreza has one.

This Odyssey battery is a Thin Plate Pure Lead battery…

A TPPL battery only loses 0.1 percent charge per month while left sitting in a climate controlled environment… Think about that in relation to the following battery types.

Lead acid batteries lose 5-12 percent charge each month in the same conditions.

And regular AGms lose 1-3 percent charge each month in a controlled environment too.

TPPL batteries are a whole different battery vs regular AGMs and Flooded batteries.

This why it is still holding a charge and has been performing the way it has since you have gotten it.

I’d still rather have a newer battery but if one were to get one that is sitting for 3 years and in a controlled temperature environment… Then a TPPL battery is a far, far, far better option vs the other battery types.
