Just picked up a new Odyssey Group 24 for my '18 Legacy. Freaking thing is heavy as hell. I feels heavier than the EverMaxx AGN H7 I just put in my S4 but apparently it is about a half pound lighter. Checked with my battery testers; Ancel BA101 and Foxwell NT301. Both showed 100% SOH and 80% SOC. Both showed higher CCA than advertised though I don't remember the exact numbers. Have it hooked up to my CTEK 7002 US to fully charge before I install tomorrow. Hoping it fits. OEM is Group 25 but I hear that most people have been replacing with either a 24 or 34, with the 34 being shorter. I also heard rumors but couldn't confirm that the new Legacy replacement batteries are a 24. Supposed to fit the tray just fine. The only potential issue is the battery insulator which won't fit. I could either go without it, modify it to fit the hot side or replace with something else. The battery is filthy like it has been sitting on a shelf for a while but doesn't appear to be used at all. Hoping it works out well and lasts a while. The battery that it is replacing is a replacement Subaru battery that was put in 6 months after I bought the car and is just over 6 years old. The positive terminal was covered in white and blue corrosion and has a black grease like substance in between the caps. Took me 15 minutes to get the clamp off last week before I cleaned up and put back on. May replace the terminal clamp, may not.

Being an AGM, the filth is negated.

All this talk of fit!

How won't the battery insulator fit? Is it a plastic box or "layered asbestos pad" style?
I have to look at it and see what type it is. The group 25 battery isn't as long as the 24. Height and depth are similar though. I believe it is some type of sleeve that fits over the battery.

Looks something like this.

Looks like a 5 year old battery. Does it have a date code sticker on one of the sides?

Looks a little different than the photo at the Odyssey website.

I could not find a date code anywhere. This is the only other sticker I could find. It does look different plus the CCA is lower than what they are advertising now. Not much lower, but still not as high. The Ah and RC are the same though along with the CA. Both testers show higher than value on the ticker.

It just finished with the CTEK and now shows 100% for both SOC and SOH. I took the charger off of it and will check it tomorrow with the tester.

According to Odyssey, that battery was made in November 2022.

Read post #11 then post #13

I'm gonna test today with my battery tester after letting it sit over night but the fact that it said SOH 100%, do you think it is ok? Should I contact Odyssey? It still has the three year warranty.
The chances are good that it will be ok. AGMs can handle long storage. If u charged it properly soc and soh should be 100%. After waiting 24hrs what is the voltage? Anything below 12.7v indicates degradation. Storage capacity and internal resistance are another story. Ideally it should be approx 1000 CCA and internal resistance of 2.0 to 3.0 milliohms. I am using my personal notes from a Odyssey customer service call.

If you paid less than $125 for it, I say keep it. Otherwise contact Odyssey. Maybe they will offer you a newer battery, if the old one was bought at an authorized dealer.

I am not fan of my ctek mx5.0 and switched to the Pulsetech xc400 for charging my odyssey 24F.

When I tested it this morning, one tester showed 734CCA and the other was I think 745. According to the label on the battery, it is rated at 725. It was still showing 100% SOC and SOH this morning. I will check again closer to the 24hr mark which is in a few hours. I think the internal resistance was something like 4.74 but I will double check. It seems that their batteries are all over the place according to their website between the different models.

I did contact them. They asked me for a picture of the serial and date code which I just sent. I also paid more than $125 but I got 20% off, so less than $300. I got it from Napa. I don't believe they had it on the shelf and it was delivered yesterday but I am assuming it was in a nearby Napa warehouse.

This is my Odyssey 24F after a XC400 overnight charge. This was done before going into service.

If u cannot get a new Odyssey battery over 850 CCA why even bother going AGM. U can buy a Walmart 3yr warranty 750 CCA flooded cell for $140.

I don't know if I could argue that because I'm not getting much higher CCA than what is listed that I should be offered a replacement. If it is listed as 725 on the battery and I am getting at least 725, I don't think I have a case. As for getting an AGM in general, my options were limited in getting a group 24 non F in AGM. Walmart didn't have one. I think X2 may have. Maybe a Duracell. I could have gotten a redtop but if I were to get a redtop, I would have just stayed with the stock 25.

I'm curious as to what Odyssey will say after sending them the pic of the serial and date code.

I just checked with my Ancel. I see between 745 and 750CCA. I see 3.28 for internal resistance and 12.8v. I should also note that I am testing the battery outside the car but inside my garage where it is probably 35-40F. Not sure if that is making a difference. It's been about 24 hours since I removed the charger.
