I sold my beloved Honda walk behind mower when I moved across the country . *Now that Honda discontinued production of lawn mowers - what walk behind lawn mower brand do you recommend as comparible to Honda in terms of quality , reliability , service , availability of maintenance parts , etc. ?

My favorite walk behind mower for years has been the Toro Super Recycler, and for years I owned one with a Honda GCV160 engine. It was the best of all worlds IMO with the personal pace drive. I'm not sure if that is still an option in the store, I know in 2022 they still were, so I'd seek out a used one of those if you could.
You can probably still get a Honda. You can here, we just bought another HRX 217.
Husqvarna probably has the worst parts availability for lawn mowers. For a while there you had to make something else work or convert over to Craftsman parts if you could even find those.
For me I just get neglected non running, free or nearly free Briggs and Strattons or Craftsman or frsnkinHusqvarnas helded together with hose clamps and duck tape and bring them back to life. They don't get to die until I say it's time to die.
If you're going to pay money for one I say stick with a Honda.

How big is your yard? 
I agree with the Toro Super Cycler with Personal Pace if you can't get a Honda. I've had both and got comparable results and reliability.
Whichever brand has good long support for parts or is popular enough to have plenty of used parts availability. Personally, I'd say quality mower is important & there were some John Deere push mowers that had Kawasaki engines w/oil filter on them. Those were neat. There's a Lawn-Boy following on the net that's fun & they did offer 4 cycle engines as well so don't think you have to fog mosquitoes w/2 stroke mix. Like @jeepman3071 mentions I've also heard of good reviews on those Toro's. Yes MTD product but they did make some decent residential offerings. Breaks & scrapem as tarly calls them are all over the place so it's an engine that would have plenty of used parts for a long time. If your yard is small enough there was a recent electric post yesterday w/good review & 3 yr warranty.

You can still buy a Honda from Home Depot if you hurry since they are selling off the remaining stock. Not sure where you are in the PNW, but most of the Home Depot stores in the Seattle area have plenty on the floor. Here is a screen shot from the HD in Renton, WA. You can also get it shipped from HD.com.
Electric mowers have some of the worst parts availability.
Electrics are good as long as you know you'll never run over a dog toy or raw hide bone, will never let the grass get too long, will never hit a tree root or rock.
I thought it was just mowers. They still have a large presence in the small engine market.
Maybe I need to stock pile a few more old mowers.
As this post shows they are no longer making them basically & the writing is on the wall that electric is the replacement of choice. I'm sure they stated the same on gasoline engines once upon a time, when they used a manual reel mower, but that will be changing & parts availability, probably, an old issue of pandemic supply chain woes. Electric push mowers have been around for 75 years & the electric buyers are getting service out of them since they are getting bigger, more capable. They do have their own limitations, yes, & that is still evolving for now. Parts availability is an issue w/just about every market though even gasoline powered equipment.
My understanding was they were getting out of the mower business but were still making small engines to power equipment like generators, tillers, etc. I could be wrong though.
For consumer grade stuff, yes, especially hand held equipment. We are a long way off from battery stuff replacing ICE power equipment across the board though, especially in commercial applications or rural areas with larger yards.
Not true, Honda is no longer producing lawn mowers for sale in the U.S., but European sales of mowers will continue with production in France. In addition, Honda will continue to produce small engines for other applications like pressure washers and generators, so the parts supply will be plentiful. However, replacement mower specific OEM parts such as wheels, blades, bags and gearboxes will eventually dry up.

They are discontinuing lawn mowers, pumps as far as I know. I believe you're correct & it sounds like they'll be supporting parts/service until they decide otherwise. That's good news for now I suppose.
OP: If you decide to buy Honda double check if it had the recent recall on it.

Yes, I thought they were doing away with parts support, along w/lawnmowers, & they probably will eventually but not right now.
Yes +1 to the recall if buying a new Honda mower!
One of our members (who is known for questionable decision making) just hoarded a deck for his HRX.
