doing an oil change in my car this weekend, and just recently heard about this new mobil synthetic. anyone running it and is it any good? ive been running mobil 1 HM 5W30 full synthetic since the last oil change, with no problems and great results. just wondering if it would be worth it ti switch to this new mobil as it seems it would be cheaper. went to walmart but there was none on the shelf.

I think based on performance and price, it would compete with synthetic blends. I'm mostly going off the relatively low (for a synthetic) viscosity indices from the PDS page. It's too new for anyone to have done a UOA or VOA on it.

Absolutely!I have used Hastings filters in the past(very good filter) but ceased because they became impossible for me to obtain locally.I can order for some of my apps. just easier to p/u another brand at ap store.

Don't worry about names. As a lot of Mobil users posted in the past, when Mobil 1 EP, SM was on the shelves, it is most likely SN and they just needed to use up the old labels and containers.

As the Mobil experts informed us on the board, if you have Mobil SM, from late in 2010, or the current SN it is most likely all the same SN.

Maybe next year, if we're lucky, Mobil will come out with a Super Duper Synthetic Oil line that will supersede the Mobil super.

I see no improvement over their standard fair, in fact the spec's are not as good with lower VI's except for the 0W-20 grade and even that has a dramatically worse MRV.
Honestly I don't know what Mobil is trying to accomplish here.

BTW, I'm also not a fan of the thicker HM oils. Unless you have an oil leak I see no point in these lower VI oils.
Frankly it's all largely marketing [censored].

Have not seen MSS at Wally. Honestly wonder if they will carry it in either the jugs, quarts or at all. Right in between MSuper5k and M1, if it's like MC7500 it won't be at Wally.

Actually AMSOIL has had 4 levels of full synthetics since Oct. 15. OE, XL, AXX, and SSO. I don't know of anyone else that does.
