New Mobil 1R Particle Count Results

I had mentioned previously that my Toyota Sequoia's used engine oil was cleaner than the New Mobil 1R I put IN the engine. To be accurate, I submitted a sample from poured from a new Mobil 1R 0W-30 bottle and submitted it for particle count testing. New oil can be tested using laser procedure, and was.

As I had previously indicated, my used Sequoia engine oil was tested using the BS3406 pour blockage method (used engine oil) but the pour blockage Particle Count was confirmed via laser as the oil was actually clean enough to confirm the ISO cleanliness code as the same.

The New Oil was: Used engine oil was:
18/14/11 ISO 14/13/11 ISO Cleanliness
>4 microns 1510 128
>6 microns 106 70
>14 microns 15 12
>25 microns 4 2
>50 microns 2 0
>100 microns 1 0

Thus, confirming my original statement, the new, "clean" engine oil I put IN the vehicle was actually "dirtier" than the used engine oil filtered with the Amsoil EaO oil filter...
Please note that the Mobil 1R was actually considerably cleaner than most new engine oils right out of the bottle.
I have seen new engine oils in the 19/17/15 range quite often...

Boy, I've been sold on the Amsoil filter for sometime with the Mobil 1 filter being a close 2nd. This makes me want to disregard comments about how good those cheaper "value" filters are.

George, I'm surprised you're using M1R in the Sequioia. That engine really doesn't benefit from oils with high levels of ZDDP.

BTW, what is Mobil using these days in NASCAR?

Where exactly does one find M1 R?? I've yet to see it for sale anywhere.

Yes, Stinky Peterson, rest his soul, demonstrated that quite convincingly with a whole bunch of VOAs with PCs and microscope pictures. His data inspired me to filter any oil I use pre-fill the oil filter with a 1µ absolute filter.
