Looks good! Wish it had more approvals. MB229.5 is nice, but VW, BMW et. al. would be better.
What does disapproves mean or approves against? Chrysler approves 5-30, but not 5-40...I am confused...but that's not hard to do

Except for the slightly higher flashpoint for the Mobil ESP, the specs of the two oils are very close:
Amsoil 5w-40:
Vis @ 100C, 13.7 Cst
Vis @ 40C, 81 Cst
VI 176
Flash Point +446F
HT/HS viscosity, 3.7 Cp @ 150C
Pour Point, -42C
Noack, 8.9%
Perhaps they didn't teach the metric system in Jersey???

My comparison statement was comparing 5w-40 ESP to Mobil's other 5w30 ESP which has a Flash Point of 254F (ASTM D92) which when using (254C) (9/5) + 32 = 489.2F
The other comparison was in reference to HT/HS in which the 5w30 is 3.6. Very close to the 5w-40.

M1 has been available in a 5W-40 variety for a few years now. First as Delvac 1 if you wanted to hunt it down at truck stops or the like. Then later as Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W-40 available at many auto parts stores. Finally, M1 renamed it to Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 and it became much harder to locate. Were these Mobil oils not available in Canada?

Delvac 1 used to be sold in Walmart here for many years, but they stopped it a while back and we never did get the Truck and SUV 5w40 up here (not anywhere I could see anyhow)
Chances are good that it'll be a long while before this new 5w40 comes up here, if at all. There are very few 5w40s available up here. It's just not a popular viscosity here.

Look for Mercedes dealers to carry the MB 229.51 oils....Since Mobil has a supplier arrangement with Mercedes, this 5w-40 should show up when the "Blue Tec", common rail, MB diesels start being sold in Canada.
Of course it will probably be $12.00/US per quart...

Not so sure about that, buster. Terry commented that some of these low SAPS oil might provide a good value for passenger vehicles. The Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 might be a good substitute for Esso XD-3 and the like, that is, assuming the price is right.
