New Mobil 1 Advanced Clean

Sorry another disappointment. LOL

I wonder if Mobil released it too soon by accident.

Literally in people's hands (and probably engines too by now), and they can't offer any information!!

Maybe this means all of XOM's profits are going to R&D, and NOT marketing! :ROFLMAO: (Besides everything going to the C-suite's compensation package... :cautious:

I see it as mixed. I think they should go ahead and update the website, but I can certainly understand holding off on the marketing until all the retail space is stocked.

Funny, I've never had any evidence of sludge in any engine where I've run primarily Mobil 1 products. That includes the sludge-prone Toyota 3.4 in a 96 4 Runner we had in the family for many years and 250,000 miles. They did a valve cover gasket at a Toyota dealership somewhere around 200k and I told my Dad to have them check for sludge. The tech told him that it was "spotless" under the valve covers. We ran Mobil 1 5w30 exclusively in that vehicle.

My 3.8 2008 Jeep had valve cover gaskets replaced around 180k. The valve train was spotless on it, too. No varnish even. It ran mostly Mobil 1 5w20 through its 17 years with me.

So they could technically advertise "prevents sludge" on their existing Mobil 1 products, in my experience. So this whole thing is just not a big deal. It's more of an amusing thing to watch their different arms not seem to know what the other is doing.

I don't think the Toyota 5VZ-FE is known for sludge. It's one of the best V6s ever made. That engine is quite content on conventional frankly. They are known for valve cover gasket leaks though.

Agree that most synthetics these days could advertise they remove or prevent sludge.

They had a TSB or something along those lines for it. I remember the service advisor explaining it to me.

It was a great engine, for me. I had two of them. The 96 and I think the other was a 2001 or close to that. I didn't run the 2001 as far, but that 1996 went the distance. I'd love to know how far that truck made it before being written off. Rust was beginning, so I suspect that's what eventually got it.

I think that was the 1MZ-FE, and also the 5S-FE had sludge issues. I do not know of any sludge issues with the 5VZ. The 3VZ had some minor issues with sludge (too close to the firewall due to a rear tilt), but nothing like the 1MZ.

I think a good data point is that @kschachn was able to keep sludge issues at bay with Euro oils (Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0W-40 chiefly, I believe—he could clarify) for 400-500k on a 1MZ, for those not aware.

2-3 years ago they had Mobil 1 brake fluid and mobil 1 powersteering fluid and those are all gone now. The PS fluid was 80-90% pao on the sds
I have never seen those on the shelf and so many vehicles have electric power steering these days - or my Jeep w/ electric steering pump fluid etc …
These and brake fluid is when I go OEM bcs it’s often a partial change …

As per normal, and just like Valvoline Restore and Protect, vague and blanket marketing........

Of course, I am not doubting XOM, but it is far less specific than Valvoline Restore and Protect in their 4 OCI claim, and "back to factory clean" thing
