i'm curious as if i am using the best oil/filter combo for my car. some details.

the car is a 95 toyota camry with the 2.2l 4 banger with 89k miles, i am the second owner. the first owner took good care of it and changed the oil about every 3k miles according to her but, when i got the car the oil was very black. shortly after getting the car i changed all the fluids, the engine oil became black again within ~20 miles of use. so i began changing the oil and filter every 1k miles until the oil remained clean for a reasonable time. back then i just used what ever was cheap (super tech oil/fram filter) once the oil was clear i began using mobil 1 15-40 in the summer and 0-30 in the winter /w a pure one filter. my oil now stays nearly clear until around 1500 miles. right now i'm changing the oil around 2500 miles because it's winter and around 3500 in the summer. i use no oil additives and about half a bottle of marvel oil every other tank. i installed a oil pan heater and let the car warm about 5 to 10 mins before driving depending on temp.

suggestions?

great site! i'll likely contribute a bunch to the bicycle forum too as i am bike nut and do them for a living.

You should be able to go 7000 miles (or more) on M1.
How many miles do you drive per year?

Oh and Welcome to the Site.

I don't know much about bicycles but that I have never seen a Huffy biycle that wasn't a decent, albeit entry level, bicycle.

Yeah you can go 6-7K on Mobil 1 without any problems. Also, I see no need to run a 15w-40 oil in the summer. Alaska summers are not that hot! LOL. I would just run 0w-30 or 5w-30 year round.

Perfect for 2 oil changes per year. Yeah, 6 months is no problem for oil change interval. I have done 1 year changes a few times on my motorhome.

no but a modern wal mart bike is pretty poor and can't hold a candle to an original Huffy.

before Huffy went bye bye they made decent entry level cycles.

Huh?? where the [censored] did that come from?

With that short OCI, you could use a dino for your summer oil.
A full synthetic for Alaskan winter is a great idea, though.

What do you mean about 1/2 bottle of MMO every other tank?
The gas tank or engine crankcase?
Use MMO every time at about 4 ounces /10 gallons gas.
You can use MMO in the crankcase - it will help clean things out.

Here is a site that will answer all MMO questions.

I don't see where wet weather would dictate a shorter OCI, but maybe some of the oil gurus here would know more about that.

I won't be buying any Walmart bicycles. All my household has used garage sale bikes. Mine was all of about $5 after cobbling it together from a couple very low price garage sale finds. It's a Ralleigh all terrain (not mountain gears) bike and seems to be pretty solidly built and is reliable.

Hey there.

i would have to say, either a 5-30 or a 0-30 year round would be great for that car. great for winter and perfect for summer would be 0-30. filter is a great choice as well, i use those whenever i can.
