New Lower Price for M1 0W-30 ESP

I think a few people have explained why 5W vs 0W doesn't matter in the summer. You seem deadset on running the 5W in the summer, so best of luck with it. The W rating does not come into play except at low temperatures. It has the same approvals, so I'm sure it will serve you well.

Thanks. I try to learn. If 0W30 and 5W30 would be same then why would 5W30 even exist? They got winters covered by 0W where I clearly see advantage of 0W. If the same oil can serve summer as well then why would oil companies and auto manufacturers not eliminate 5W30 oil altogether ( or to that matter get away with 5W20 and replace it with 0W20)

I think old(er) people are afraid of 0W and they have a lot of buying power. It also leaks. J/K :ROFLMAO:

Also 5W is cheaper and there is a market (price, approvals, application, temperature range, etc.) for that.

Did the prior version of Mobil 1 5w30 ESP meet BMW L04? If not, that could be why they removed the ester component. In that case I'd go with the M1 ESP 0w30 every time. However, we still don't know if what they're using in the 5w30 is as good. It could very well be.

In the jug I have right here of ESP 5w30, which I bought recently and shows a production date of November 2024, it has BMW LL04 on it. I believe they stopped using esters at this time. I will check my older one

Ok thanks. (y) So that's not the reason then. Thanks @Patman
I’m so curious as to why they removed the esters from the 5w30 but not the 0w30. And what exactly is the base oil blend now for the 5w30? It still has the same approvals, so whatever they are doing it doesn’t seem to have hindered its performance

M1 does the same thing with Euro 0/5W-40. I have both and same approvals.

The 0W could be a little bit more approved. :ROFLMAO:

I was told here one of the BMW approvals has virgin oxidation limits.

Edit: oops already covered

just for a suggestion, try Pennzoil ultra platinum 5w-30, it's on the lighter side viscosity wise, its also a very good oil .
