Today at WM , I saw M1 0W30 ESP on roll back for $24 for the 5 qrt. jug while the M1 5W30 ESP remained at $27. That is the best price for the best off the shelf 0W30 Euro synthetic oil I believe you will find currently … Interesting that the M1 5W30 ESP was not included in the WM roll back pricing (could be due to excess inventory of the 0W30 ESP ?) On paper at least , BTOG folks seem to believe the M1 0W30 ESP is the better oil any way .

Wow! It significantly quietened the startup clatter in a 2024 Forester to my ears. I used to cringe every cold-start of that noisy engine. Interesting that engines can seem to be so different.Not suggesting it but outright claiming it ....

I don't believe there's much real world difference between 5W and 0W in terms of protection and the ability to keep things clean inside the engine.
With all the testing and observation you've been doing, have you tried a comparison between the two. I'm guessing there'd not be much observable difference, if any.
It's hard to imagine most folks going wrong with either choice.

I suspect you’re right. I know the ester formula works so I keep using it. Maybe I’ll give the ESP 5w30 a shot in my next problem vehicle.

I'd use either based on price.. for most applications(vehicles)

I recall that a few 5W-30 specs were somewhat better than the 0W-30 numbers. The noack comes to mind, and there may have been another couple as well. In real world use, especially when factoring in driving habits and conditions, and differences in engines, you could probably toss a coin to decide which to use, except, perhaps, in some very cold weather environments.
In the FWIW Dept., my latest purchase was 5W-30, a choice made largely in part because, while transitioning to HPL, it will be mixed with a 5W-30 HPL oil.

Yes. Same here. I got 12.00 Walmart bucks for three jugs at 27.97 each for 0w30 ESP.
