Recently noticed different looking JCI made batteries. They look to be no maintenance type and have a flip up/down handle. Looks like Group 35 for now, others still have long time JCI octagonal caps and use a strap. Didn't want to remove battery from rack for pics as not sure if next would slide down. Included is pic of serial number showing JC at beginning.

I'll have to ask my friend if they can see where their Everstart MAXX group 35 was made. I installed it a couple month ago and... It does have the center-fold down handle. Excellent design in the 16 CX-5, because it gets that out of the way to make an easier path for the negative battery connection! Much cleaner.

And that handle is beefy enough to lift and control the battery's direction when installing or removing. Better than the old strap that connected on the sides!!

Oh and the Everstart MAXX they bought is a JC code/Clarios made battery.

Looks like the Deka golds I just bought at a farm store. No way to add distilled water either, although I’d trust east penn (somewhat) to make a better battery. Minus the two year warranty.

I have heard that the inspection caps are under the sticker on the top of the battery?

"The Secrets To Servicing Sealed Lead Acid Batteries with hidden service plugs by Walt Barrett" -

Ed

The sticker on the battery in the OP does not cover the entire width of the battery - hence you would see the service port in the end if there were one.

Even if it were that means you can’t service the battery until it’s out of warranty.

Planned obsolescence.

These Korean made "Sealed" batteries are popping up. Pretty sure that's the same type I bought for my two riding mower batteries w/a green see through color changing window although I don't see it present on this one. Good change in my opinion. The more sealed up the battery is the less loss of fluid. In my experience they last longer. Even Everstart's "Maintenance Free" deep cycle batteries last longer than regularly capped batteries. Seeing more AGM's as well being offered.

I'd add here that the East Penn made Everstart batteries are and have been "sealed"/"no maintenance type." My East Penn made Duracell battery purchased at Sam's also no maintenance (no caps) type. In my observation, many folks here seem to like the EP made batteries. Fwiw, I don't have a problem with the no maintenance type battery.

My deka gold is the same. Honestly I’m good with being completely sealed. Less of a chance of leaking

Me too. Imo and my experience, I think you make a good point about "leaking". And if I'm being honest, I rarely if ever open the JC caps to check the level. Best thing I do is put my batteries (sealed or with caps) on my 2-amp Noco occasionally, to bring the charge back up. Especially in colder temps.

Yeah, I just pulled a pair of Everstart maxx batteries out and replaced them with the dekas, and the electrolyte was fine in both. They were just shy of 4 yrs old and the Nissan smart charge system had done a number on them. I also never hooked a charger up and just ran the cars with zero care. I was able to bring them both back to almost 100% with my genius 5, and a few weeks of charging and using the repair feature.

What state Walmart?

NC Could be different supplier in east coast Del, East Penn perhaps.
I looked the other week at Everstart batteries at Walmart in Delaware and they had "EP" prefix serial numbers.

Maybe it's worth moving to a state where the Everstart batteries are manufactured by East Penn??

Were it me I would contact East Penn and see where I could buy a East Penn battery in my town. Maybe NAPA?

Nah, while EP made fine, not worth that much to me. I've had what I consider to be good success using JCI made batteries too. Linked a JC made Everstart Value 1 year warranty battery I got 52 months out of. That's decent ROI imo. As noted previously I also have an EP made Sam's Club Duracell battery I've been satisfied with. In eastern part of state, Everstart made by EP. Regarding your initial state query, under my display name, The Old North State = NC.

So I am 71 and took US history in high school at 15 or 16. So I may have forgotten a few history facts. But ask me earth science facts and I probably know most. Like water weighs 62.5 lb/cu ft. And I have my Selective Service ID card I got at 18.
