I have 12 hours on my new Kubota M7060. Manual calls for first oil change at 50 hours. I'm in South Central Alabama, so summers are pretty hot. I'll use it 90% of the time bush hogging in summer. Recommended oil brand and weight? Wait until 50 hours or change it sooner?

Thanks!! Hopefully it will last me the rest of my life.

I’d change early. no reason to let break in debris circulate. delvac extreme 5w-40 and a carquest premium oil filter once a year is my recommendation.
Thanks. I was planning on running Kubota filter. Is the carquest superior?

How soon would you chiange the oil and filter?

carquest premium filters are stunning from a build quality perspective (built by premium guard) cheap and accessible. you could also by a microgard select, SOME STP XL and napa golds. the last two are region/remaining stock dependent.

i would have changed the oil now.

I'm a fan of early OCIs on new equipment; get the particulate out. I usually change at 10 hours, 50 hours, and 100 hours; then on the even 100 hours for the balance of use.

After that, just the normal OCIs is fine. Given you're in the south, any CJ-4 15w-40 will suffice. I recommend house brands; ST, RK, etc. Good value for the money and they perform quite well. Kubota engines are generally very tolerant and don't need anything special. Same goes for the UTHF.

I had an M5040 and an M5700 when I was farming in Western Washington. Because I was making hay, which is very dusty work, I changed the oil every 50 hours with Delo. Both tractors were in fantastic shape when I sold them to move to Arizona.

For those who do not know, M series Kubota tractors are the real thing. All the others are basically toys.

I run normal delvac 15w-40 in my L4701 (no turbo) and haven't had any issues or reason to change. I bought my tractor when it was 5yrs old and had 125hrs on it and it still had the factory grey filter on it... Doesn't seem to have hurt anything in the long run.

A full synthetic 5W-40 CJ-4 or CK-4 will work.

Shell Rotella T6 is easy to find, and has a great track record…

You can use 0W-40 or 15W-40, but I preffer the 5W-40

I thought i read somewhere that Shell Rotella shears more than most?? I may be remembering wrong

Unless they updated their manual (highly doubtful), the only options you have to be warranty compliant are 10w30, 15w40, and SAE 30. You probably won’t have too many sub 0*F starts in Alabama for 10w30 and 15w40 is probably cheaper and easier to find than straight 30.

I’m a fan of Kubota filters. Very robust and appear to be Denso made or inspired. The hydraulic filters for the larger machines appear to have a milled baseplate whereas aftermarket is stamped. Some don’t even come with a magnet for metal particles. No thanks.

If it has break in oil in the sump I would go just a little longer to ensure everything is seated per the manufactures recommendations. I would not go the 50 hours, but I feel like 12 hours is too short.

I would use an oil that meets the spec in your manual, but most likely since you're in Alabama I would use a 15w40 in a Fleet store brand to maximize savings. I don't know that you will see a huge difference in engine wear by spending extra money on "better" oil. I would also use the OEM filters, but that is just me.

I echo the sentiment here. 15w-40 would be a good choice in the south. I recent switched to Amsoil Max Duty 0w-40 because I plow snow with my Kubota. Helps with the cold starts a little and definitely seems to be quieter when running at PTO speed.

I also get my filters from Kubota. The canister filters are appear better than anything I've compared and are sealed at the factory. The hydraulic filter has a magnet right in the filer base plate. FYI - if your machine has a hydro transmission, don't be alarmed by the metal you see in the filter and on the magnet. They have a tendency to shed a scary amount of metal for the first few filter changes. Also - I recommend sticking with the factory Super UTD2 tractor fluid.

Ive had a couple of new diesel tractors (Yanmar) and I like to do the first OC at the 30 hour mark with a conventional 15w-40 for summer work. I switch to synthetic at the 75 hour mark with 5w-40 and annually or at 200 hours whichever comes first. Yanmar recommends 250 hour OCI. Id assume Kubota would be similar.

For your Climate id stick with 15w-40 in something like Delvac1, Amsoil max duty diesel, etc.
