New Hearing Aids

What brand and model did you get?
 
I got mine from the VA last year. Great audiologist. Hearing aids may be necessary but not always the panacea they are are made out to be. I still prefer to have the CC on the TV. Wind noise, especially at the beach is uncomfortable. About two months ago at chuch the service included a fellow playing the bagpipes. I had to remove my aids, couldn't take that cacophony.

Mine are Phonak.

I like bag pipes, out in the open. Not sure about them inside a church, might be a bit overwhelming.
 
I went with Miracle Ear about 6 years ago, the BTE kind. They're good, but not "fantastic". If you ever tried to explain to someone exactly what you can see, just think about trying to explain what you can and cannot hear!
I gave them suggestions on how to fix that, and they are considering it.
We'll see.

Restaurant and crowd noise is terrible and can't be controlled, aids usually come out in that case.
The good thing with ME is all the aftercare is included. That's cleaning, annual testing and any adjustments needed.
 
I have Oticon hearing aids, provided by the VA. Spent 23 years running Diesel Engines under water. Even with double hearing protection, it's loud....

The hearing aids are great, but not the most durable. Had to send them in for repairs 3 times in last two years. I'm very gentle and careful with them also. Wish there was a more durable solution.

Your cost $2000 and insurance paid the rest?

I don’t have hearing aids but might one day. Having been in Advantage plans it might make sense for me to pay attention to the hearing benefits in any given year.

I’m at a crossroads right now if I continue Advantage C for 2025 or switch to Medigap for a year. But most likely a ways off from getting hearing aids, though I could maybe use them with my tinnitus

I know this discussion of comparing Supplemental insurance, to Advantage went South a while back. Yes check it out. I can't imagine in my wildest dreams going back to Supplemental. Do yourself a favor (if you have not don-I suspect you have-knowing you) talk to an advisor who deals with advantage plans...they know their stuff. And they don't care what you get. They get a cut.

The other thing is that improved hearing helps ward off Dementia. This is a solid fact. Take care my friend! If the hearing aid doesn't suit you, you can return it for a full refund.

Im confused, I am assuming you have an Advantage plan and that paid for your hearing aids. Ok, I think I got it, by Supplemental you mean Medi-gap. (duh, I see you did mention Advantage, my mistake of course)
I know all about them and have been in Advantage C for 3 years now, Im sure you know that thread and wont say more then this since its about acquiring your hearing aids . Heck, this year my plan bought me a new Apple Watch 9 and two pickleball paddles and I still have $500 more to spend on exercise equipment. Also paid $1,750 towards a dental implant/ but this is about hearing aids. I am saving this type of a conversation for a future post once I decide what I will get next year, medigap for a year or another Advantage as I have a medigap option this year since Aetna is not offering my specific plan next year but a host of others. (it was too expensive for them)

Good for you and thanks for the review on the hearing aids. I looked up their website and bookmarked it.
 
I purchased a set I kept seeing advertised all over about 6-8 months ago. So far , pleased with the quality. May be a good choice option for someone with no insurance coverage to purchase and not end up spending thousands like some companies ask for.

The brand/model we bought online is called Audien - AtomPro OTC Hearing Aids. Purchased when they ran a special discount and got them I think for right about $199 plus shipping. The kit came with one pair hearing aids , 3x ear buds , charging dock / case , usb charging cable , power adapter , cleaning kit etc...

Been pleasantly surprised. Good quality and they came with a volume adjustment tool. These charge up really fast , work very well and seem to pick up voices without drowning you out with totally loud feedback noises like those cheap-o ones I have tried did.

My dad has had very poor hearing for years (73 years old now). He recently got tested at Costco and got hearing aids - it's a world of difference. He can hear much better in normal circumstances but also in places like restaurants, etc...

There's an app that he can use to control settings and even turn them off. Like a comment above, he's found a few circumstances where the sound was annoying so just turns them off in the app.

They have bluetooth so he can hear TV sound directly and can also do phone calls directly with them, through his phone.
 
My dad needs it but refuses to pay for a "professional" one. Basically the Jabra hearing test said he is in the severe hearing loss already and the off the shelf $600 ones won't cut it. He kept trying those $100 cheap ones from Amazon and return, and now he is trying to get the Apple Airpod Pro 2 with mild to moderate hearing loss hearing aid feature instead (not yet released).

Now we basically have to yell at him or text him.
