New harbor freight offerings

I am BEYOND psyched they're offering a BJP1 fighter. It looks like a blatant copy.

Astro tried this for at least 6 years. Kept promising one was coming, then gave up and said it "stepped on too many toes in the industry." Well, somehow HF has pulled it off, and $200 is absurdly affordable for what you get -- assuming it's not garbage

I'm all for Amereecan made tools, but the BJP1 has always been out of reach for the hobbyist, and for too long SnapOn has beat us over the head by having the inexplicable monopoly on this design (specifically, cups that snap into place so you don't need four hands for a setup)

I actually ordered one yesterday because I predict prices will climb over $200 soon. If the metallurgy is decent I don't see how they're doing this at that price, and HF isn't afraid to flex a little with anything badged Icon.

I say it's a great day for the industry. Even if it's foreign market, competition is good for the consumer.

^^^^also, I already have a BJP1. I just couldn't resist seeing how the Icon compares. And I like tools. And $200 is a relatively small investment.

I wonder if the cup engagement is identical and they interchange??

Let us know, please!

Okay, what is a BJP1?

This is the Snap on

This is the Icon, if it is as good as the other Icon tools it is a steal, $600 cheaper.

Ok, HF did not try to hide a blatant copy of the BJP1. It ships as this; I was glad to see made in Taiwan

Inner box, note they got real original and call it a BJJP16. ;)

Now, if you like hard cases this is genius. Seriously, kudos to HF

Then you don't have to label everything yourself (I know, I'm ashamed of the mess):

Somewhere the Icon is actually 2oz heavier; 11# 7.5oz vs 11# 9.5oz. Note I'm not suggesting this makes the Icon superior, merely that they didn't "thin" the design or cut corners in mass as copies often do. This says nothing of metallurgy.

It does appear cups interchange if you remove the snap ring in the Snappys. And I think the snap ring will fit in the Icon cups.

The Icon uses three spring loaded balls rather than a snap ring for retention. The ring interferes with the balls, but I believe they'll engage the groove where the ring would normally reside. Likewise, without the ring the Icon cups just fall off the SnapOn arbors, but I believe the ring will fit the groove for the Icon balls.
