Vaporware. I would be interested if it folds.

In your opinion is it a quality tool? I would be interested in what you think after using it a few times, is the Snap on really worth $600 more? From the pictures it seems pretty impressive for $200.It does appear cups interchange if you remove the snap ring in the Snappys. And I think the snap ring will fit in the Icon cups.
The Icon uses three spring loaded balls rather than a snap ring for retention. The ring interferes with the balls, but I believe they'll engage the groove where the ring would normally reside. Likewise, without the ring the Icon cups just fall off the SnapOn arbors, but I believe the ring will fit the groove for the Icon balls.
Well, it seems quality, but yeah, I haven't used it at all. 90% of what I do with my BJ presses is u-joints. I may not have any actual ball joints to do for awhile, and that's the real test.In your opinion is it a quality tool? Also I ASSume you've tried putting the snap ring in the Icons or removing it from the SnapOns and they stay together as they should?Trav,
I have both, and the parts interchange. It'll be interesting to track the longevity. I have already seen a broken c-frame on an Icon set.
Snap-On groove on the adaptor is retained by the Icon balls. That much I have done. The broken c frame was shown on the Youtube channel from CP The Tool Addict. I'm not a fan of his delivery so I'll leave it for others to search. Looking at his video, there might have been a pre-existing crack in that particular forging. I would love to get an actual look at it.Also I ASSume you've tried putting the snap ring in the Icons or removing it from the SnapOns and they stay together as they should?
It looks like it should work. Diameters are the same so the only variable I haven't had time to test yet is the groove itself, ie will the Icon groove accept the snap ring or will the SnapOn groove engage the Icon balls with snap ring removed.
Was the broken Icon frame on YT, a forum, social media or just personal observation? Not challenging you -- it would just be good to see a linkable reference if available.
Honestly it was a joy to use. The three spring loaded balls seem more elegant than SnapOn's snap ring and they worked really well. HOWEVER, they seem more complicated, prone to contamination/intrusion, and less serviceable if one should fail.Other than that how was it to work with, any noticeable flexing? How much approx did you take off?
Quoting myself because I'm clairvoyant: retail now up from $200 to $230. I predict settling between $250 to $300 for awhile -- still a heckuva value compared to SnapOnI actually ordered one yesterday because I predict prices will climb over $200 soon. If the metallurgy is decent I don't see how they're doing this at that price, and HF isn't afraid to flex a little with anything badged Icon.
I say it's a great day for the industry. Even if it's foreign market, competition is good for the consumer.
