New Ford Ranger T6 review

Gee, I paid under $14k for my 2011 ranger with little or no Options. But it does sport very, very good 4 wheel disc brakes with traction and a nicely tuned skid control, AC, AM/FM/CD/MP3, split large buckets option (200bucks) with centre rest, a proper operating clutch (a rarity anywhere!) big Continental tyres, 3 point hitch, almost 1/2 tonne capacity, very robust suspenion, intermittent wipers, and I am averaging class leading 27-31 MPG when its not humid out.
Ive heard there are no plans for bringing the new 'stranger stateside. This is a big boo boo all around. When I was at my dealer having the not class leading Mazda hecho en Espaina 2.3L powertrain looked at, A carpenter who had owned a ranger in the past could not beleive FORD were halting production this Fall AND closing the giant Twin Cities plant in St. Paul - which has its own hydroelectric dam for power. Anyway I bet the new one will be here soon enough be it built stateside or imported - ford cant loose this class to Toyota and GM.

And we don't get a good little truck with a diesel option why?

If they brought that Ranger here it would cost more than a v6 F150, and more than most of the base full size trucks from competitors. That's why no one wants to build compact pickups, because they do 3/4 of the work of a fullsize for 9/10 of the cost.

Just do what Ford *wants* you to do, and buy a V6 F150.

The 2.3 Duratech for the Ranger is built by Ford in Michigan per Wikipedia,

Just add another "never to be seen here" world class vehicle to the list.

Waiting for the diesel cruze.

Well for under 14K after rebates and discounts, my 2011 truck does 3/4 the work, is built tougher than any econobox and gets 30 MPG - good enough for me (for now [:>) I agree for Ford its a loss leader with the $$$ made up on the guys how buy extended cab xlt V6 AWD for 28 large. I'll take advantage while available

I just bought a new 2011 with the 2.3L & 5-speed manual.

It has a Made in Spain engine - probably to share with the Focus production line.

I don't get why Ford keeps trying to sell the F150 base model to people who want a compact truck.

It is way too large, high riding, lousy mileage, lousy handling, and automatic only. I don't wnat a full sized truck. No thanks.

Even the current US Ranger is too high riding. It needs to return to old ride height 2" lower - more stable, better handling, and much better handling on slippery roads.

If I want a 2wd truck to haul, I don't want some 4wd wannabe. I want low cargo entry, good handling, and a 7' bed, which got discontinued.

The current Ranger is be stopped, because it would need a redesign for 2012 US rollover regs.

Yep, why spend $14k on a little truck when I can get a full size truck with an 8ft bed for $3k-$4k more new.

Fuel burn difference isn't much and the full size truck can carry twice as much.

A base Chevy 1/2 ton can be bought for $17k all day long and can carry close to 1 ton in the bed. Plus it can do something no small truck can, lay down a full size sheet of plywood.

What we need in this country is a nice 5 or 6 cylinder diesel option for 1/2 ton trucks, or a LNG option.

Because our environmental geniuses think that a 50 MPG vehicle that puts out 50 ppm NOX in the emissions is a gross polluter, while an 8 MPG monster that has an extra catalytic converter is a partial zero emissions vehicle... While putting out TONS more total pollution.

Global warming or not, CO2 issue or not, this is a backwards priority, IMO.

bummer its not for here, i always liked the little rangers, i haven't kept up on ford news lately do they have no plans for a compact pickup after this gen?

Can't compare that way.

The G-8 and GTO were built in Oz, and sold in the US for 40% less than they did in Australia even with exchange rate of the day.

At $41k when I bought it in 2003, my Nissan was about half the price of a diesel F250. It (my Nissan) can legally carry a tonne, and drag 6,600lb (braked).

You'll be waiting for the new V6 diesel Nissan anyway. Not sure if a V6 is the way to go if there is no great capacity difference, but we'll see when it comes out.
