Trying to compare specifications between New Mobil Super 5000 SN 5W 20 , PYB SN 5W 20 and QSAD SN 5W 20 . Of the three I can only find specifications for the new Mobil Super 5000 SN . Does anybody know the specifications for the PYB and QSAD dino oils ?

Thanks Arcographite - I didn't recognize "MCSS"... Are you referring to Motor Craft Syn Blend or something different ?

Yes Motorcraft. The new SN/ILSAC GF-5 are out. I know, I just got some

How does the Shell stuff compare to the Mobil spec wise?

Arcographite : Based on the info I could find from Mobil , I have the ranking as follows :

1a. Mobil Super 5000 5W 20
1b. PYB 5W 20
3. Quaker State Advanced Durability

* The wild card is the new MC Syn Blend 5W 20 - do you have the specs on the new SN rated ? ... Love the MC Syn Blend 5W 20 SM rated - I hope the SN version can walk the walk !

ARCOgraphite - Both are pretty close . The VI of Mobil Super 5000 was 152 for 5W 20 (better) , the Flash Point was 446 F. The CST @ 100 degrees C. was a tie (8.4) The PYB pour point was better (-39 F. versus -33 F) . No HT / HS numbers for the Mobil Super 5000 I could find . The only thing certain was the Quaker State Advanced Duribility for 5W 20 came in a little lower - still very good most likely . * What do you think over all about the new MC Syn Blend 5W 20 SN rated ? For grins I would like to see a lower tier full synthetic such as QSUD specs. to see what it's numbers look like(couldn't find QSUD specs on QS web site) ...

I usually look for an oil with some moly in it to use on my Toyota since it doesnt have a roller cam, also I think the moly is beneficial to cyl wear and low rpm "luggability". I dont use 20 grade oils since my cars are not spec'd for them - I added a 1/2 qt of 20 this winter to get the hot viscosity where it need s to be during my commute and ease cold warmup. The subaru likes a thicker 30 grade in the summer so thats mainly what I look for there unless i see a consumption issue with a particular brand - then I will pass on that next time.

Thanks for the information ARCOgraphite , my new dino ranking is as follows :

1a. MC Syn Blend SN 5W20
1b. PYB SN 5W 20
2. Mobil Super 5000 SN 5W 20
3. QS Advanced Durability SN 5W 20

* The QSUD synthetic at $19.00 per 5 quart jug at WM puts it close enough in price to the above three for serious consideration .

As a result of your personal analysis of MC, PYB, Mobil Super and QSAD...all in 5w20, how much synthetic is now in these conventional oils to help them meet the SN, GF-5 classification?

Thanks.

Not to confuse the issue, but Durablend is a sleeper. Has a vi of 161 in the 5-20 and is Dexos approved?? I really do not know about that, wording leaves something missing. Either way at $19 you get 5 qts and usually a Pure One. The few uoa show low wear #. Just something to ponder.
