Much ado about nothing. But, if it makes you feel special to think you have a special oil, or that you "know" for a fact there are special break-in oils in the universe...have at it.

Exactly. Since nearly every mfgr does use assembly lubes and sealants they can show up in a used oil analysis. It makes some folks feel 'special', more power to 'em!

It's your car, you get to do what you want to it...

Just look at any FF UOA. As SteveSRT8 said Some of the added moly could be coming from the assembly lube too.

The lack of courtesy and general nastiness is alive and well on bitog I see. Sad thing is that I myself have gotten caught up in that habit. What is it....like a flu or something?

GM no longer uses M1 as the factory fill on the new Corvettes. They now use the AC Delco semi synthetic blend (which is still an Exxon Mobil product) Any dexos certified oil can be run in the Corvettes now, it doesn't have to be synthetic like before when the requirement was 4718M

Wow, I didn't know GM had switched from Mobil 1 for Corvettes. Does that mean they now have some redesign of the engine for better cooling or that they have some sort of oil cooler now? The 4718M was a high temperature requirement, right?

I find this pretty interesting. Maybe semisynthetic motor oil is just as good.

You can change it early if you so desire or you can wait until the OCI you choose comes up. Either way works. Personally, I always do my 1st oil changes at the 1500 mile mark. If you don't do anything, make sure you check the oil level during that initial "break in" period... because you may use some oil.

When did this start? News to me and obviously others.

I guess M1 got tired of paying GM to put their logo on the oil fill cap? lol

Either that or Mobil got a better price on oil to use for their factory fill.

I believe it started with the 2011 model year, at least on the wet sump engines. The dry sump equipped engines (Z06 & Grand Sport coupes with manual transmission) all continued to get M1 from 2011 to 2013.

Maybe someone should tell XOM

See: "MYTH: You should break in your engine with conventional oil, then switch to a synthetic like Mobil 1™ oil."

They are saying exactly what I was saying though, it's still factory fill in the higher end Corvette models (ZR1, Z06, Grand Sport), but notice it's not listed as being factory fill in the base model anymore.

Yes - upon more careful reading, they do support your statement. If I was fortunate enough to get a new 'Vette, I would have somebody's syn in pretty quick. Can't imagine tracking one without.

Actually you do. When you assert a "fact", the burden is on you to provide supporting evidence when challenged. Otherwise you're just an anonymous internet know-it-all.
