New Carquest EP Oil Filters

I wonder if the "hydrogenated" gasket means it has some soybean oil on it? as in pre lubricated....I am no expert in fat chemistry but I hear partially hydrogenated oil is healthier...

With a similar micron rating as the Carquest Premium - do you run the same EP 20K mile filter for two or three 5K mile OCI’s ? That’s the only way this EP oil filter makes sense to use . If you don’t use this EP filter for at least two OCI’s it doesn’t make sense to use it - you would be better off just staying with the Carquest Premium .
If I was already using the premium, even with equal efficiency, I would definitely upgrade for 100% synthetic meshed backed media. The additional cost per year is trivial.

Maybe avocado oil, since it's the latest rage in healthy diet plans.

It means it's hydrogenated NBR (I think is typically marketed as high temp NBR) vs regular NBR

Just came across this on Advanced Auto that a new line of Carquest filters are on the market now. Anyone have any efficiency numbers on these? I wonder if they are just duplicates of the PG made Mobil 1 oil filters. Kind of high price at $16 a piece before discount.

I'm still interested, but the cost for me is almost 2x the Carquest Premium. I change oil about 4k, so I don't think there is a need at least for me. They do look nice though!

Oh please, please, please ... let it be designed and made well, free of cost-cutting efforts and production defects.

I tire of the current garbage in the market. I'd pay $16 for a well made, reliably consistent filter.
And no excessive light leaks either !

So I asked a buddy who works at Exxon. He’s some kind of an engineering assistant.

He stated the hydrogenated nitrile rubber has a better resistance to heat, oxidation and has a higher abrasion resistance vs a standard nitrile gasket or o-ring. He stated these have been a think for o-rings for quite some time. He wasn’t aware of non industrial application filters getting the better nitrile.

Count me as another who won't be upgrading from the Carquest Premium. First, I don't need a filter that is good for 10,000 miles, much less one that is good for 20,000, so no advantage for me there (I change every 3-4K miles). As long as the Carquest Premium filters 99.5%@20 microns and 2x capacity of standard filters, what advantage would the EP/20K filter offer me?

Aren't the premium 99% @ 25 ?

According to Advance Auto website, who sells the Carquest Premium filters, it's 99.5% @ 20 and 2x capacity of standard filters.

Also, I am now running AMSOIL Signature Series in my Outback, and made that change to give the extended OCI (12 months which will be less than 8k miles for me) a go. So, I do need a filter rated for more than 5k, which the Carquest Premium is.
