Well I finally did it. I bought a car that I've wanted for some time, a BMW 330i. Its very nice, bought it used off of a BMW lease through a company that specializes in very clean, used....uh..PRE-owned, late model Beemers.

It had 42K on the clock and has been in service for 3 years. Looks garage kept as the exterior is flawless, no dings, chips, swirls, scratches, nothing. No wear on the leather inside and appears to have had a good protectant used on all surfaces. Service record shows no work other than routine maintenence at 15 and 30K. I suspect that even though the owner seems as anal as I am, he/she did the BMW maintenance schedule OCI of 15K. Oil appeared and smelled ok but I'm definately going to pull a sample. If results are iffy, I can take the car back within 15 days/1000 miles of purchase date for a full refund. I hope I don't have to do this because there hasn't been a 330 this nice show up anywhere I've looked before. Anyway, I'm new to Teutonic cars so anyone with experience/advise, please feel free to show me the light. I'll post the UOA when it gets back to me. Now, I'm off for a drive

If you have any concerns ask about the BMW factory 100k warranty. Other than that don't worry it is a great car and engine. My wife had a 89 325I in europe and they changed the oil according to the onboard computer and the mileage intervals changed as the conditions of driving changed. She has a 97 740iL now and we got it at 40k and now has 90k and never burns any oil. I used Mobil 1 5w30 at first and switched to Amsoil six months ago. But I am going to switch back to Mobil 1. Just because it is easier to get. The main thing you have to worry about is the driving speed. You don't think you are going 80 until you look at the guage. Happy driving.

In addition to giving both LS1 and LS6 engines more power and torque, Corvette powertrain engineers also improved their environmental friendliness. All Corvettes, including the Z06, are now classified as National Low Emission Vehicles. The recommended oil change interval has been extended for all Corvette models from 16,000 to 24,000 km (10,000 to 15,000 mi) or one year.

Should be good for BMW as well.

BIGJ-Its an 01 and I paid 26K and change.

Oldman-It still has 1 year or 7800 miles left on the factory warranty. I did purchase a VERY comprehensive service plan that goes for another 7 years and/or 125K miles. It is identical to BMW's right down to the roadside assitance. I hear ya on the sense of speed thing. I was driving along with no cars to gauge my speed by, and WHOA, almost had to give myself a ticket for that one

350-Had an 03 Max. Nice car, traded for the Quest we now have. Purchased an 04 Sentra a few months ago but will sell that to my neighbor. He has been wanting it since I drove it home, I'll make him a good deal.

Very nice! I love the 330i, I saw one parked in my neighborhood the other day and I was checking it out. It had the optional 17" rims on it (or were they 18s?) and it just looked fantastic!

shortyb, can't wait to see the inside...of the engine !

Get that sample in to Blackstone and we'll break it down !

Contact me if you want to use a in-house kit and get a FTIR run of the oil, if you know the brand.

shortyb,

The Bavarian elves send their congratulations and are anxiously awaiting your choice of lubrication. They are hoping you will use the Elixer of Teutonic Perfection if the owner's manual allows (seems like they should know that) or Elixer2 (you know the Elixer of Belgian Waffleness).
