Where the Cannonball scofflaws aimed to make a statement about personal freedom, Bolian said he has the utmost respect for law enforcement. His goal was merely to "add myself and pay tribute to this chapter of automotive history," he said.

yeah ok, that is like saying I respect military but I am going to bomb everyone in uniform

To slow.

The thing is, you need some level of probable cause. how do you know they went through your state/city/county? I doubt they can obtain rights to siezure unless they have evidence suggesting they passed through that locale.

But, say, NY got it, bc they were known to be there, or CA, the states might then be able to share it? IDK. Not sure how cost-effective it would be for each state/municipality to pursue it, other than to set a precedent.

Still, I personally would not have posted it inside the statute of limitations. I also don't know if I'd want my name associated with the feat--- imagine the local PD... there would never, ever, be any more "warnings," just tickets.... But I'm also just cautious like that. I don't drive like that because I care about not getting into an accident, or the liability...

Frankly, the car excites me more! dual auxilliary gas tanks. pumps to handle it. additional onboard electronics. that stuff seems pretty awesome to me. Though, I don't get why they had so much issue with fuel smells. if the tanks have sealed caps, and manage any venting properly, (such as tieing the vent tubes together to the proper carbon canister plumbing, solenoid-actuated valving to handle pressure relief during fuel transfer, etc.) there should not have been fumes inside or outside of the car. My $10 5gal plastic gas jugs seem to manage it ok... so it doesn't take space-aged materials and fittings...

Search Gumball 3000. This really is kind of tame compared to what they do. The US has to many laws and good police.

I guess the new passat tdi has a governed speed of 113 mph. That is kinda slow. Probably need an ECU tune to fix that. Slower acceleration is made up for by never stopping.

113 on a CL600 isn't even 5th gear...that's like a slow cruise.

You have to stop to change drivers, what matters is the average and to get a 98mph average you have to run pretty fast for most of it, well above 113 because any stop or a stop light will kill you.

The way these guys make time is out west they run fast, these guys did 158 according to the GPS, the guys in the Ferrari did an entire state at 2am at 180+.

That's just crazy. I'd hate to see them after a deer jumps out in front of them. Or with these cars, even an armadillo, badger, etc. Going that speed is going to be deadly for all. All for what? Do they take main interstates? There's always semis on the road. If they take state highways, it would be even more stupid. IMO, there's enough fools on the highways already.

Ego and to prove it can be done. That's nothing, you have never seen videos from the Gumball 3000 in Europe have you?

They won't run it in the US because their is to much law enforcement.

In a lot of countries law enforcement helps them break the laws and go faster...like closing roads, escorting them at high speeds threw cities, smoothing over accidents with locals etc.

I remember a few years back I think it was Belgium didn't want them going threw the country, so one member of the Belgium Royal family invited them in and the police just had to sit back and watch! LOL.

With all that added fuel and two extra drivers, you would be adding nearly 1000 lbs. The added weight and high speed would mean you'd likely get 25 mpg.
