New Briggs -- I'm stumped

As I mentioned before: none of those B&S pulsa-jet carbed flatheads would qualify for most recent OPE emissions standards, none whatsoever (runs too rich to begin with).

That's why, whatever B&S flatheads currently or most recently reached end of production run (all the way up to those 7.25 series gold/bronze/silver or whatever they called them) flatheads all come with walbro LMS clone sidedraft carbs---they do run leaner than pulsa-jet and comes very close to stoichiometric ratio, meaning less carbon deposits on spark plugs.

They do run lean from time to time, so you may ended up getting a "lean" condition when you try to re-start a hot engine.

Also: I have not had much luck servicing those B&S flathead auto-choke type engines so far...maybe my luck runs out already?

Yes, that's the one. I actually quite like how it runs. Being only 140 cc, it's a smooth little engine. Less rotating mass in an inexpensive single cylinder design like this is always good in my opinion. I've never been a fan of Briggs' "Classic" flatheads (with those dadgum pulsajet carbs), nor their "Quantum" flatheads (the 190 cc engines), but this 550e OHV engine is a smooth little runner.
