My opinion as well, just speculation but I think it woulda been fine.

I think the Filtech under discussion changed their name to Roki America in 2011. I have no idea on what association that might have had with Champion Laboratories.

They have a facility where I currently live but I've never visited it.

Roki in Findlay, OH

Champ used to make the Bosch filters, I thought, and that's the term I thought they used for their media at the time. I know about the Roki thing, too. I thought that was coincidental, but who really knows.

Looks not too bad to me. Only real way to tell would be a post use examination. Simple though, don't want to use a Mann&Hummel owned Puro US filter, use something else.

As for filtech media name, just a name for Bosch media that carried over from when Champ made Bosch, and continued when they purchased Puro US with M&H. Even though it has long been considered basically a P1 clone, appears they have finally dropped the media name.

Why would you bash a MH Puro made filter (or any brand for that matter) that hasn't even been used yet?

I don't think he cares for a "tear prone" filter. especially ones that I have cut that have "torn"

end of discussion

Why don't you take another look at that filter and explain to us what makes it prone to tearing? Don't make excuses because of the manufacturer, just tell us based on its construction what makes it prone to inevitable failure.

Bottom line: you can't. It is built just as well as the next one. Media is fine. One or two pleats that aren't perfectly straight tells us nothing as we have seen the same from other manufacturers as well. Construction is solid. You are just going off the brand and not the filter before you. Unless you open a new filter and an end cap falls off or it is warped or some other extremely rare phenomenon, there is no way to tell by the construction of any unused filter. Just bashing a brand based on bias alone.

Discussion continued

point is I don't, and wont use one. good enough answer for me and others here, so that's what matters. Kind of like when you say a tough guard or ultra isn't good enough like a Purolator somehow is eh?

Oh yeah, I have cut more that are TORN so you know. I will also stick with Zee0Six and other "more knowledgeable members" who accept that Purolator has NOT fixed this problem to this very day. thanks for adding nothing to a otherwise informative post

Look at the last picture and how off center the end caps are. Most other makes have the end caps fit the media. How can the filter element operate like that? Fail.

No need to get so defensive. You were making comments about how this filter would be prone to tearing based on its construction. I simply asked you to quantify that somehow. To explain what about the construction clearly made it prone to failure. You were unable to, so it is only safe to assert that there is, in fact, no way to definitely tell based on its construction that it would have failed. Don't take things so personally guy, nothing personal, just business right?

Second, you may be misremembering, but I have always said the Ultra is the only from filter I would use, and currently have two in service that I plan on doing a compare / contrast article between them and the Purolator synthetics.

Your post was in no way informative. Making blind assumptions that cannot be validated are much less than "informative".

If you would rather listen to zee and other "more knowledgable members" (aka people that agree with you) go ahead. But if you make a point, you should be able and expected to defend or explain it just like anyone else here.

As far as the Purolator problem that may or may not exist. Have there been some filter failures? Sure there have been some reports of torn media. I won't deny that. Never have. I maintain the point that it was a combination of a small (one year or so) bad production run and people using these filters in ways they were not designed to be used. Having said that, I would bet money that the filter you cut open could have been used for a 5k mile OCI just fine and not been any worse for the wear. I think its construction proves that. So once again I leave the question open, without getting flustered, making personal attacks or deflecting, how does this particular filters construction prove it would have failed?

Pleat spacing seems a bit wide wouldn't you agree JK_636? Also, please give us insight as to why the media seems undersized.

This isn't about older filters in past use. It is about this one. Apparently It seems as if you didn't read the question correctly, or you don't care to back up your argument. Either way is fine with me. If you wish to address it, great. I would love to debate it. But if not, that's fine to. Keep passing off opinion as "fact" with no need of explanation other than "I said so".

Aside from a few unevenly spaced pleats (which are nothing more than esthetics) the media seems fine. I don't see anything catastrophically wrong with it.

And if you are a fan of the OCOD (which i believe you are unless I'm mistaken) than pleat spacing shouldn't be an issue right?
