Hey guys,
I just got myself a 1986 Yamaha XV1100 Virago with 30k on it.
What oil should I run? I was thinking of an HDEO like
Delo 400LE or Rotella, or Delvac in a 15w40. Any advise would be much aprecaited. What do you guys think? Should I run a hdeo or just a regular car dino like formula shell 10w40?
This is my first real bike and just not certain what would be good. My dad has always used and continues to use, Castrol GTX 20w50 in his Ninja, and in my mom's Intruder.
Will the hdeo make the wet clutch slip??
Sorry about all of the questions, I'm just excited.

Thanks,
Justin

Congraulations on the new bike. HDEO is a popular choice around here for many riders so you probably can't go wrong with that choice. If it is your first bike it may be helpful to take a rider course like the ones sponsored by AMA. Enjoy.

For that bike I would use Rotella 15w40 no question about it. I use Amsoil in my bike only because with a 16k rpm redline I want the best oil I can find.

Congrats on the new bike man. Be careful and pretend that you have a target on you when riding.

Either of the 3 hdeo you mentioned are supossed to be good oils with robust additive packages. I personnaly use the rotella 15/40 but have a gallon each of the delo 400 and delvac 1300 i want to run.

Good luck with your decision

I recommend either Amsoil's MCV 20w50 or M1's 20w50 MC oil,i
use both in my HOT running ATV's with great results.
