New Auto-RX instructions? Frank chime in please.

I've just finished my 2nd auto-rx rinse phase and noticed that the new directions for the cleaning and rinse phase direct the user to double intervals from the original 1500.

Does this mean if the user followed the original directions, the procedure was less effective?

it just seems that the new instructions would achieve better results: more auto-rx in the oil + more time in the oil= better results.

Anyone else agree?

Keep in mind that the original Auto-Rx instructions (IIRC) had lower mileage limits. This was altered to take in advances in oil formulations that required more time for Auto-Rx to do its thing. There has been some blurring of what's what in semi-synths and whatnot ..and (my opinion) the mileage has been lengthened again.

Still, if you've got heavy sludge, I'd be swapping out filters before swapping out the sump.

In any event, I think Frank has tried, in all cases, to use the K.I.S.S. method. Look at how much questioning occurs with the simple set of instructions that he already provides. Literally tens of thousands of questions over the 5 years that I've been here ...all for instructions that are pretty darn simple if you read them (admittedly, I'm one of those who subscribes to the shameful notion that instructions are only used when all else fails). Most of them fall along the lines of needed reassurance. Occasionally you would get someone panicking about a few added ticks or clicks during a rinse cycle ..or someone reporting a lame oil sender. Stuff that's alarming ..but not atypical in the treatments ...but mostly the same rehashed reassurance type questions.

Now imagine if there were 4 sets of instructions that varied depending on what oil you used
dunno.gif
Tens of thousands X 4

So, now Frank figures (maybe - my speculation) that the mileage figure needs updating both for new formulations and enough collected empirical data showing that longer treatment lengths don't have a donwside.....and now all those who did it the old way are wondering if they sold themselves short by not leaving it in long enough.

Also keep in mind that one of the things that makes Auto-Rx a niche product is that it takes as long as it does. Most of the rolling consumer population who needs such a product wants results in 5 minutes and wants to spend $5. The mileage standards made some reluctant to wait that long. Patience is something we're not noted for as consumers.

There's plenty of evidence that the old instructions worked just fine. This is to cover the fringe without incurring issue(s) in an attempt to provide the absolute best bang for the buck. (again, my opinion).

We don't change application instructions on a whim and we surely don't invalidate users benefits using previous applications. They just have to go off maintenance program (if doing the maintenance dose) for 1 oil change period-rinse for 3000 miles. They have then caught up to new application benefits. Now go back to maintenance program.

Just to reiterate! Stop using any Auto-Rx (if you're on a maintenance dose) for ONE 3000 mile OCI using a Group II or Group III oil. You want to minimize any polar bonding activity that may occur while you're trying to liberate deposits from the metal. Then go back to whatever you want (preferably using the maintenance dose).

When I read a post from someone who wants to make there own application I know they never read the Auto-Rx application let alone the FAQ and frankly are negating Auto-Rx chemistry that is formulated to give them the best performance-save oil cost-increase MPG.

If you do the math new application instructions save money
we try to increase Auto-Rx Performance while lowering costs.

I firmly believe new application instructions are better and will indeed, after rinse mode is over, produce more usable benefits. Going on maintenace benefits will keep the
benefits at maximum performance plus you never have to clean your engine again.

A note on seals. Anything with any seal swelling agent should be avoided while following the instructions. Allow Auto-Rx to remove the deposits that are making the seal rigid in a distorted shape. Once the deposits are removed (clean and rinse) allow the seal time to return to it's normal shape with a 3000 mile OCI without any interference from swelling agents to allow reseating of the seal. After that, go back to your HM or other oil of choice.

it seems to me the users that followed the old instructions received less value out of the product.

They are still learning what their product can do and what the best ways are to implement the product. ARX has not been around all that long and it is a unique product so there aren't many guidelines out there to follow. I'm as critical of Frank as anyone but cut the guy some slack, he's trying to make his product better.

I do agree and I've been saying the same for quite some time after my ARX experience last year. On my 3rd run of ARX (which was exactly one year ago), I ran the clean for 3000 miles and the rinse for the same. Some people have run them even longer.

Spartuss read this again there is no "less value' just follow how to catch up to new instructioms.

I like the idea of continuous improvement. I'm glad that Frank didn't worry too much that the old instructions might been seen as deficient somehow. He could have easily kept this info to himself and carried on with the old instructions since they work pretty good too.

Thanks for keeping our best interests in mind. I'm glad to know there's a better way to use your product.

Unlike many other products Frank listens to feedback and does testing and the results are that the instructions get updated. It's just that simple. I think that Frank's attitude toward business makes Auto-Rx a better product.

I agree-totally.

When I ran my Auto-RX treatment in my 3.1 Buick last spring (after replacing my I/M gasket) I ran the clean phase 2200 miles and the rinse phase 3000 miles. I did this because the oil never got dirty and also because I asked on this forum if it would be a problem to do so. I'm glad I did now that the instructions are pretty much that.

PS: My car never ran smoother but I also had an intake system cleaning done so I don't know if Auto-RX should get all the credit. I think my engine was pretty clean to begin with (because of frequent OCI's and highway miles) but I'm still glad I ran the Auto-RX for ringpack cleaning and seal conditioning.

I am for the least expensive oil & filter for rinse mode. Did you know Auto-Rx will keep your oil from breaking down for a much longer period

You have been outstanding on keeping us informed on your results. Based on your results and one other person there seem to be no doubts that new application instructions produce results far above previous ones.

I firmly believe if you go on to the maintenance plan your engine wil never see a wrench because of problems with internal oil lubricated parts and that your compression-combustion-mpg wil remain at same high standards and you will never have to clean your engine again.

If you do the math Auto-Rx is the only proven-guaranteed answer to todays economy.
