I would not recommend the heavy ATF fluids unless there is an overheating issue.

Before products like Transynd, Red Line D4 and Amsoil ATF we didn't really have any 'heavy' ATF fluids in the market. All the Mercon, Dexron and similar were high-shear low-visc based fluids that could not stand up to extended use. Typical use shows them shear-down to a 4.x or 5.x visc which is a better representation of their operating visc, not the 7.x listed on the spec sheet.

We now have durable, low-shear, long-life fluids. The 6.0cSt is NOT a low-visc spec, it's a common-use spec. Any quality 7.x cSt fluid used now is really too thick for most uses.

Valvoline MaxLife, Amsoil ATL, Dexron VI, Red Line D6, Mercon LV (and plenty others) are examples of modern, quality ATFs that fit the bill for most transmissions used today.
