New ACDelco PF52 Classic Cut Open

Got my new oil filter cutter today, so I cut open an ACDelco PF52 Classic. Been buying these for $2.62 each from O'Reillys with the $5 off $10 coupon. Filter was manufactured February 14, 2015. Pleat count total was 51. Just a tad of excess glue, but overall it looks like a fine filter to me, and very good bang for the buck.

The PF52E ecore version of this filter has 61 total pleats. I reckon they increased pleat count to protect against media blow out through the large cage spacing. The Classics still have the round holes in the metal tube.

The two sides of the seam are not flat together where the two sides are glued together. If you look at some other filters with a glued seam, the glued area is usually flat together, similar to a metal seam, but glued instead.

Yes, I see what you mean now. Looked at the PF52E ecore that I cut open recently, and the seam is glued flat like you are describing. I tried to tear the seam apart, but it is glued really good.

Anyway, I think I might cut one more open to see if this glued seam is common to the Classic filters.

Got another one cut open, and the seam is glued flat for the most part. Better looking than the one that is posted now, but still not as good as the ecore. That was a good catch Zee!

Thanks for posting. I always wanted to know what one os these looks like inside. It seems like it's a decent alternative to the PF47. I have 2 cars that can use this filter.
