Picked up the GS this past weekend, momma was tired of driving an SUV (2015 Buick Terrain DENALI) car has the 2.0 Turbo, have 168 miles on her and plan on dumping the FF at 500, dealer says it's running a synthetic blend oil, is the turbo oil or water cooled, this is my first Turbo car and want to break her in right, plan on running Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, should i let the little 4 banger run the blend longer or go to the Pennzoil Platinum at the 500 mile oil change, by the way this little pocket rocket is a blast to drive, get a lot of thumbs up by other drivers.

Nice ride...Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 sounds great, might be worth making sure it is a newer jug with the dexos1 Gen 2 label.
GM developed Gen 2 due to the quirks of DIT engines like their 1.5l and 2l turbos.
I ran the FF in my DIT for 5000 miles, I'd say an early change should be totally up to your personal preference.

These things are sharp. Congrats on the new ride. Are these AWD?

First oil change, I'd use whatever is cheapest just because I am assuming with a 500 mile oil change, you probably won't run the next fill to it's full potential either. (I would do the same thing by the way.)

For the rest of the car's life, I'd use a Dexos synthetic while under warranty then a 0w40 after that. Pretty sure the turbos are water cooled so you won't have to worry about letting the engine idle ~30 seconds prior to turning the engine off.

500 miles seems like overkill, although I did that on my 2001 Grand Prix. On my Cruze, I did the first change when the oil life monitor was still at 67% which turned out to be 2500 miles. Our engines are very different, as mine is not DI and is only a 1.4T, but it has been happy on the Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. UOA to back it up.

Nice car! I'd love to have one. How do you like the hatch? Seems like that would be nice with how small trunk openings have gotten on the typical sedan.

Thanks guys, it's FWD with the optinal 20" rims, thought it might be a rough ride but it rides really smooth, this is the only pic i have right now, salesman took this shot when we were leaving the dealership, color is Black Cherry.

Very nice! Congrats.

I like those cars and others of those similar styles but my wife was hooked on an Impala. It's been 16+ years since we purchased a new car, and like you, I can't believe how nice they ride! The handling, peppiness, comfort and amenities are incredible, imo.

As far as oil goes, I'd also dump it early. I have done that with anything I have owned or built and I'm a firm believer of dumping it early rather than later. I am currently running Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w30 in her car but only because it was a better deal than the PP. When that oil is used up, (Bought 2 jugs) I will be switching back to PP and likely doing once a year oil changes after I do switch back to PP.

If you change the oil at 500 miles, at least put in some Liqui Moly MOS2 (amazon or napa parts store).
Why? There is a solid theory/practice of moly being able to prevent hot spots forming on the newly machined cylinder bore surfaces and rings.

See this post recently from a Honda new-engine discussion:

The factory fill oil is not the issue, it is the high moly assembly lube used they want retained in the oil. Doing the first oil change early can cause hot spots to form in the engine.

I do like the idea of changing the oil out early like you're planning. Also maybe get a magnetic drain plug such as Gold Plug or Dimple (strong magnets on those). Look to use a Fram Ultra oil filter to get the smallest junk out.

Black Cherry paint! Luv it. Wow, nice. Buick is nailing it.
I just got GM's new 2018 Equinox, and I agree SUV's are not as much fun to drive as one of those.

And like others have pointed out, the newest "dexos1 Gen2" oils just coming out now (shelves at walmart have them already) are meant to combat the possibility of LSPI in those 2.0T DI GM engines. Only use that stuff, any major brand, plus about a half bottle of Liqui Moly MOS2 until a few thousand miles have accumulated.

Nice car. I love Buick styling. It doesn’t have the “busy work” so many modern cars have today. Simple and sleek is good.
