Network File Xnsfr Issue

I have both my old Wxp and new W7 machines set up on a network to move files over. I've run into a problem attempting to open a FF profile folder backup. First, Mozbackup set it as read-only and despite much clicking, it remains. Second, I'm unable to copy it to the W7 machine. "Network Error: Windows cannot access xxxxx.default. You do not have permission. Contact admin. to request access."

I am the admin on both machines, and signed in as such. However, something is screwy with this folder. I've spent more than an hour trying to figure this out. Network admin is just above my pay-grade.

Any ideas? Where can I read about this topic so I can figure out what's going on? No doubt I'll run into this with another folder. I thought a network would be the quickest way to xnsfr files from one machine to another, but this folder has me stumped.

If you don't want to think about it, use a USB drive to copy the files over.

I'm guessing it's owned by someone else on one machine, i.e. it's an identity problem. The file system you would lay onto a USB drive, FAT32, won't preserve ownership information, so will get around this.

I've since dove deep into W7's new security file sharing protocols & rules, which were adopted from Vista and completely different from XP. I've found plenty of angst from other users wanting to network an XP machine with a Vista or W7.

Turns out both computers showed up on the same network group, but the network map function in W7 didn't show them tied together.

WOW...just got it to work!! I changed the name of WORKGROUP to something else, hoping to ditch the old one I'd set up on Wxp to avoid confusion. The Wwp machine still isn't placed in W7's "network map", even though I tried to install a KDxxxxx update to enable LL???, something an XP machine needs in order to be "seen".

I also tried a different approach...instead of selecting the folder I wanted to share on WXP, going to the share tab, etc....I just dragged it onto the W7's public docs folder. After a few minutes of copying, I found it on the W7 machine. I was able to drag it onto that desktop and it copied!

Now I can RESTORE all my bookmarks, tabs, etc. in a new profile on the W7 machine. Geesh....that only took about 3 hrs....thanks ms....

I end up using fileZilla client and fileZilla server to move files over the system.

Sooner or later, I'd want to get into W7 home network. Just didn't expect such a hassle when my MAIN GOAL was to xnsfr my info and move on with it. I copied over other files without any issue. Not sure why THAT ONE was a PITA.

Picked up a Sabrent external HD enclosure so I can use these older HD's externally with the W7 machine. I'll also have to check my thumb drives for space.
