OK. I had an occasional rough idel and after tanking some advie on cleaningt the Idel Control valve it went away for awhile. It's back again.
Additional, the car (97 Malibu, 84,000 Miles) is now running some times very smooth that I think I'm coasting down hill with the engine off, and some times, there is a drag on the engine.

Here is my question, I have been quoted a price of 84.00 for a BG44 treament for the cleaning of the injectors and such.

I'm not concerend on the price, but does anybody know of this treatment? Is it the same as the ARX that I have been reading about?

When I cleaned the ICV, I could not really reach into the throttle body by about only a finger tip, but when I pulled my finger out, it was covered with, let me say, muck.

I must admit, that in the past, I have used cheaper Fuel Injector cleaners, but about 400 miles ago, I used a bottle of Techron, and have started to use a better brand of gas. Such as Chevron, Mobil, BP and stayed away from the Speedways, etc.

Once again, I appreciate any information/ideas/ suggestions.

Thanks

Haven't tried it but it seems to me BG-44 has been mentioned before. Try a search. Probably in the additive forum.

About a minute of web surfing found me a website selling it for $18.95, so you probably don't want to pay someone an extra $65 to pour it into your tank.

Well, Auto-RX is for engine oil, ATF, gear oil, etc., so it won't clean your fuel injectors. I've had great results with Redline SR-I/1 (got it at Parts America I think).

I'd find out what the shop is going to do for that price. If they're just going to pour in a bottle or two of something and let it run or drive it then heck you can do that yourself for a lot less.

Based on your description of the IAC, maybe you need a good throttle body cleaning too.

Also recently pulled the injectors and sent them into witchhunter performance for cleaning, filter&o-ring replacement, and flow testing @15/ea. Came back in really nice shape, so if you're inclined to R&R the injectors maybe that'd be an option; there's lots of places that do it.

Gumout regane, redline, seafoam all have very good cleaning abilities for a low price. I would run a tankful or 2 of those before going in for a more expensive treatment. Regane has won my vote as it totally cleaned my system out, I had a rough idle, low accel even after I replaced the PCV valve and elbow(which were cracked).

A full bottle of redline or regane should clean your fuel system as good as anything. You figure, you buy 2 bottles you might be out 15-17 dollars if it doesnt fully work.

Occaisional rough idle.

I would inspect the distributor cap and plug wires first.

Thanks for all the advice. I have already replaced the plugs, wires, PCV and hose (since mine also cracked).

I just picked up a bootle of Regaine Complete and as soon as I'm a little lower on gas (right now about half of tank) I will throw it in.

One question, the bottle does not say anything about cleaning the Throttle Body. Will it help clean that as well? If not, any good suggestion on how to go about cleaning it. I got a can of Carb/Throttle cleaner, and it says to spray it in the body while the engine is warm. I can not figure out how to remove the IAC Valve, with the engine being hot. Will the engine run if I remove the IAC valve?

Hey, I said it before, I am stupid......But greatly appreciate this site.

Thanks again...

I am really stupid. I don't know for sure. It's a 97 Malibu 6 cylinder. If some one can say it has one, I will go buy a new one, and cuss like heck trying to replace it. Hey, it's the week-end.....

A careful cleaning of the port and the valve will improve things IF it's the/a problem.
I have the 3.1 V-6 and I'm not sure if it has one, don't feel bad.

Tell you what. I'll take it to the local dealership tmrw and see what they say. If they say I should replace it, then I guess you and I both have one. I'll let you know....

That would be a NO since the only thing that is supposed to be going through your throttle body is clean air.

When I clean my throttle body and IACV, I simply take them off the car (a '97 Nissan Maxima). It's not really hard; four bolts, 2 coolant lines, and throttle cables). If you look real close at yours, it should be very similar. Or you can buy a Haynes manual for your car at AutoZone or Advance Auto for about $15 and have exact instructions.
Removing the TB makes cleaning it thoroughly very easy. Just make sure you have a new gasket to put on. Or, what I do, is make my own gasket out of high temp gasket material (a roll of it at Advance Auto is about $6, and will last many TB cleanings).
If the problem is the TB, it will be a world of difference once it's clean. I do mine about every 10,000, which is probably overkill. But I don't want to ever have idle problems, either. It's just part of my maintenance now, and doesn't take long at all.

I don't know about GM, but Nissan coats their throttle blade with some type of coating to keep it cleaner longer. Nissan warns not to use carb cleaner as it will strip this coating. They recommend a throttle body cleaner for it. I use STP's Throttle Body and Intake Cleaner because it won't strip this protective coating off. And it is plenty strong enough to remove any gunk from the entire intake system.

And Clyde65 is right. Gas and/or oil additives will not clean your throttle body.

Now that WOULD be stupid. They'll say you need our MegaBuck FI cleaner service. $99, please.
You can take apart the throttle body and clean it yourself. But for an OCCASIONAL rough idle, I don't see what the hurry is. Give the pour-in-the-tank cleaners some time to work.
