Need Trans Flush Product

I hear you on the "detergent-based formula" but it says not to load the transmission and or drive with the additive in and then to perform a full fluid flush to get the additive out. That to me would sugguest a strong additive that can be dangerous to trans.

That said I'm on day 3 with Auto-RX in the trans and I'm noticing a difference already. Shift quality is much smoother and the downshifts are now not noticable.

The fluid is already turning colours so it is releasing some gunk in the transmission that I think was there from before I started using Amsoil, and also as an accumulation of all the miles I have on the unit.

Could also be the stuff stuck in the rad cooler and auxiliary cooler...

Interesting observations already and I'm going to be adding a Magenfine today to the mix to filter out loosened debris.

I will always use RX unless there is something I can't wait for the RX to work. I was just letting you know it's a detergent base not solvent.

It sounds to me like you really don't need any chemical flush additive. Just do a cooler-line flush and throw a Magnefine on and you're set. If its a screen, nothing is getting caught in it anyway. Just maybe check and clean the Magnefine (they are openable and cleanable IIRC) and you'd be set.

I'm thinking about a Diesel inline fuel filter because it would need to be strong enough and allow good flow as an alternative to magnefine because they are hard to get and so darn expensive here.

StevieC I ran a Magnifine on my Dads cargo van a 91 Caravan with the A604 trans. I put in a rebuilt trans and put in Amsoil fluid and a magnifine. I ran everything to 85,000 miles. I then changed the fluid and pan filter. When I looked at everything the pan was spotless and the magnifine did not have anything on it. I did not do anything like a break in fluid change. I just threw in the fluid and slapped a magnifine on and ran it.

It took about 5 years to get the 85,000 on the trans. I know magnifine suggest changing more often than that. Just giving you some perspective that maybe you can get your monies worth with the 20$ magnifine.

So because it's such a PITA to find a Magnefine filter at the moment and because I'm taking a long road trip this weekend (10 hours total) and can't order one at a decent price I have resorted to a full flow fine filtering diesel fuel filter that I'm going to install on my transmission line to collect the junk floating around with the ARX & Fresh Amsoil ATF doing their thing.

Here is what it looks like. I bought 2 and I'm thinking of sacrificing one to see what it looks like inside, I just need to be pushed...

I intend to cut open the used one after the run to see how the media fared...

Here is the filter cut open... Thinking excellent flow while filtering out good amounts of junk without affecting that flow and cheap. I intend to put magnets on the outside of this to increase filtration power!

Installed the filter and it works great... The lines turned out to be 5/16 not 3/8" as it looked like from a slight distance so I made them fit on the 3/8" filter. At least it won't leak.

The funny thing was I disconnected 1 of 2 lines that are clearly marked to/from cooler in my technical manual and both ends of the line had fluid pouring out of them when I ran the car.

I thought, well maybe it was just bleading the system but this continued for almost 3 litres of fluid...

I'm not sure why, but whatever... I installed the filter and took it for a spin and let me tell you that filter is getting really hot with the fluid in there so it must be "pre-cooler" fluid.

Anyways, all is well. I red-lined it a few times on the back-roads here to test it for pressure etc. and all is well.

Ok here is the filter# D139225 as I saw on my bill from the place I got it. It seems to be a generic filter that lots of people carry and I found this cross reference list of manufacturers that make the same sort of filter.

http://downloads.pfgaustralia.com.au/intranetwebcache/Parts/QuickRef/MC/Filter%20Referrence%20Guide%20%280808%29.pdf

So this should help you find it.

I will still check with the place to see if they know the brand of mine or it's just a China Express.

Cheers,

Steve

Ok I'm leaving for Ottawa (Ottawa area) tomorrow morning early and it will be 5 hours there, then a bunch of driving there and then 5 hours back.

So I would guess a good 15 hours of driving in total with the ARX in the transmission and the filter on the transmission line.

Should be interesting to see what comes out at the end of the cleaning cycle. I will have driven about 1400Km's (almost 1K miles) by the time I get back home on Wednesday. I'm going to leave the ARX in for 3K miles (5K KM's) before doing a fluid exchange with fresh Amsoil ATF.

I'm back from Ottawa and accumulated just under 1300KM's (812 miles) and the transmission is shifting great.

The colour of the fluid is still red but it's more like a maroon colour than the cherry red it was when I left for Ottawa with the ARX well mixed into the fluid so there is definitely some cleaning going on.

I'm going to drive it to 3,000 miles (5K Km's) before flushing and refilling the transmission with fresh Amsoil ATF and a new diesel filter on the transmission line.

I can't wait to cut open the filter and see what it caught during the cleaning...

I will post pics here for sure!

Got me one of these today from the Ford dealership in my area. I'm going to put it on when I do the flush/fill with new fluid. It's labeled "Ford" instead of "Wix" but I was too lazy to take and upload a photo.

I have also decided I'm going to refill my transmission with Redline DI-4 and give it a shot and see how it stacks up to my trusty Amsoil synthetic.

Since RL and Amsoil are both using Lubrizol has their additive supplier, I doubt there is much difference between the two ATFs as they are both synthetic multi-vehicle products.
