Hey there everyone. I drive a 02 honda accord 2.3L with 98,XXX miles on the odometer. I have been using M1 since I purchased the car which was 45,000 miles ago. I have been a lurker on this site for quite a while now and discovered that M1 changed it's formulation to groupIII. Well now I need an oil suggestion, the car is run hard daily, since I deliver pizzas. Which means it sees allot of short trips, high RPM's, and allot of city driving. The car usually doesn't burn any oil, but I currently have castrol GTX high mileage in the crankcase right now but it already used 1/2 a quart in 1,000 miles..

Well since it worked well on GRPIII oil just find a less expensive GPII oil or try other conventional oils till you find one your car likes. People seem to find oils their car likes all the time. I used lots of mobil makeup oil on my Neon which is prone to it with a suspect PCV system. But other oils have less PCV loss than others.

how about havoline dino? Seems like hondas live forever on anything anyway. or PP?

So far no consumption after 500 miles on Havoline Dino. First OCI with Havoline.

Not sure GPIII is worth that much more that GPII + for the price difference.

Some engines will consume a little more oil when they are switched to a different formulation. If you want to continue to use GTX high mileage, give it at least an OCI to stabalize.

However, I don't understand why one would pay the premium for a high mileage oil in that engine at 98K miles. You switched from one overpriced oil to another overpriced oil, IMHO.

If you're looking to save some money, I'd look to any bargain priced SM/GF-4 formulation and follow the manufacturers OCI recommendations. If you want to step it up a notch, SuperTech Syn is Group III based and has a great add pack. And if you can get the buy-one-get-one free Pennz Plat at AA, that's another current bargain for a high quality product.
