I have three different cars and I from what I've been reading here; they might all need a different oil.
The first one is my 2004 Mustang Cobra. I wasn't sure wheter I needed to repost this in the racing forum due the shear power the engine produces with the supercharger. The engine is making 800 horsepower at the flywheel give or take. It is hard to say because I only know rear wheel horsepower numbers. I drive the car around town maybe 10-20 miles at a time. I often drive the car hard. The engines tolerances are setup for the street. I've always run Mobil 1 5w20 in the car but I wouldn't hesitate to switch if there was a better suited oil for my application.
The second car is my 1996 Mustang Cobra. This car is mostly stock with somewhere in the 320 horsepower range. I still drive this car hard. It has 130k on the odometer. It has had Mobil 1 5w30 in it since 1998. 5w30 is what Ford recommends. Milage put on this car is comparable to the 2004 Cobra
The last car is my wife's Nissan Maxima. Nissan recommends 5w30 for this car too. This car is what usually has most miles put on it. We take it everywhere. I usually run Mobil 1 synthetic in it also but I do put cheap oil in it every once in a while.
Do all synthetic oils have similar cleaning characteristics? I'm not looking for the cheapest oil either. I really want to run the best oil that will provide the best protection at 15k oci. I will change the first few oil changes earlier than that though on the maxima since it has had conventional oil in it about 30% of the time.
I also understand that the oil is just one part of the equation. For that reason I also have a filter thread in the filter forum.
