due to impending doom and gloom at work i may stock up on about 3 years of oil changes. luckily the car is paid for

what is best for the 2AZ-FE engine. car's manual says anything from 10w30 to 20w-50 is fine based on temps - never below freezing.

note we have limited oil ranges down here. easily available are

castrol GTX and edge
valvoline conventional and durablend
shell helix
mobil 1

Things are pretty gloomy here in Florida, I'm starting one year oil changes, I have a stash of GC 0w-30, if I didn't, then Mobil 1 ep would be the choice due to price alone. Castrol edge sounds great but, but for me its an additional $15 vs Mobil 1 ep, and I wouldn't be going a full 15k a year anyway.

I use either 5W30 or 10W30 in my wifey's 04 camry 4cyl (2AZ-FE). Currently running 5W30 in negatory C region, and run most 5W30 (when 10W30 onsale, I will use it w/o hesitation) during the summer when traveling down to so-cal.

I don't care about anything thicker than 10W30 for I don't believe in "mo thicker betta" anyways.

Same as Johhny... Shell Helix would be my first choice, then Mobil-1

I would check out Mobil Super 3000 5W-40 . This is a new synthetic product (likely mostly Group III based) from Mobil slotted just below Mobil 1. It is probably one of the best priced synthetics available in the Australian market.

Didn't Bill in Utah have a Camry that just absolutely loved Castrol GTX. Maybe it was a Corolla, but I do think it was the 4 cylinder. I remember seeing his UOA's and noticing you couldn't ask for a better reading.

Don't get too far ahead. In three years, the stored oil will have less shelf life remaining, and more importantly, better advanced types of oil will probably be available.

oil unopened has a shelf life of 5+ years. Plus it would still meet the spec...

I got 3 jugs of Shell Helix Plus 10w30. I already had some Valvoline conventional 10w30 and Durablend 10w30.

Also bought some filters. they were very exxy. part no. 90915-YZZE2.

Tell you what, you americans should come over with your cheap oil and filters... you'd rule the market.

Paid through my neck today but still reasonable prices compared to the rest! Got my shell helix for 1/3 of the price of M1 0w-40 or half the price of edge 5w30.

yeah think bill had the GTX in the corolla. GTX is the same price as my shell-helix synth blend that i ended up getting

the engine was designed to an SJ/SL oil... any SJ/SL would do it fine. I don't believe in 3 years the difference would be that great. I didn't do it to save cents, I did it to have an inventory when i'm deep in the poop and can't go out and buy stuff.
