Need filter recommendation - big cube LS1 dry sump

Nearing completion of solid lifter 427" LS1 with dry sump and 7300rpm redline. This is a street engine that will not get the luxury of frequent rebuilds so oil filtration is very important to me. The dry sump system utilizes a remote Fram HP4-sized spin-on filter and I am looking for recommendations on what to use.

I am looking for a good combination of flow and filtration, but am probably more concerned with the former. I see much good about the new Amsoil EAO, but it doesn't appear to be available for the size I need. In the absence of the EAO and based on my own UOA with other applications (albeit not necessarily very similar) I am leaning toward the K&N. However, I am thinking seriously about the Canton CM spin-on filter as well.

I'm not an expert, just looking for input/feedback/recommendation on a filter for my application. Assume $$ is not a concern, ~1000 miles/yr driven at most, and it must cross-reference to Fram HP4.

Oh, forgot to mention it will be using Redline street oil, but not sure yet what viscosity will be recommended by the builder...

An EA025 won't fit that mount? What thread size is it? I'm on the road right now so I'm not sure on the specs for a HP4.

I know it's a pain in the rump to get a new mount, but a 3/4-16 Ford mount seems to give you more filter options.

Okay did some more poking around and it appears that the HP4 cross-references to the Wix 51060R, which is externally like the 51060 except it is their "race" version and has much higher flow rate (28 gpm) and lower filtration (61 micron nominal). Looks like the EAO24 is comparable to the 51060, but can't find what would cross-reference to the 51060R or HP4.

Pablo, do you have filtration and flow rate numbers on the EAO24 to see if its comparable to the 51060R? Interestingly, K&N lists their HP-3002 for both applications (51060 and 51060R)...

I don't think you're gonna find anything in high flow/fine filtration packaged in a common sized filter.

You many benefit from a bypass type filter tapped off of the main vein and returned to the tank.

You can run two standard (and finer) filters if you can handle the added plumbing. I would not recommend a Permacool mount. One of the Amsoil mounts might work for you. They're tapped for 3/4-16 threads. So your AN/JIC fittings and hoses will bolt up easy enough. Then you could run dual Cummins full flow filters if you bought the Dual Guard. That would give you about 30 gallons of flow capacity at a 20um nominal rating.

Ideally, if the room and wallet allowed, you would buy two Dual Guard units and run one full flow with dual full flow Cummins and one with dual bypass filters ..but that's a little out there in terms of filtration.

Yeah Gary is going for some seriously cool set-up.

If you want to stick with 13/16-16 then go with the WIX 51060R, however the EA024/25 will fit - unfortunately I don't have flow numbers.

I don't know if I am going to physically have the room for this kind of setup, but if so I will definitely do some research on this dual filter approach.

I also spoke with Canton about their 25-400 series spin-on filters and they claim 45gpm with 8 micron filtration level at 98.9% on first pass. Does this seem realistic?

Thanks, Pablo. The WIX also looks like a good alternative. I have actually read some positive things about the Fram racing filters, but there's a hangup there with the orange can that I am having trouble coming to terms with.

Stock oil filter will work well enough. 1k yearly oil changes real doesn't require anything special.

What oil flow rate(pump size) and pressure do you have?

My question is, why are you using stock GM filter size and street oil?
