In Internet Properties of IE, click on "Content'. Then click on "Settings' for Autocomplete. Y9ur credit card number and all your passwords are probably being saved. Uncheck some of those Options there.

Same with Firefox. Open "Options' then open 'Security'. Your Passwords Saved option may need to be unchecked.

Use a diffrent machine just to be safe , Ubuntu is NOT safe.

The problem with ubuntu is your able to download open-sourced software very easily which you allow them to motify ANY files by giving your your information.

Just like on a Mac , once you give your password to the installer , if its malicious its too late. An updated Windows machine with internet security ( anti virus , maleware, and firewall ) is safest and most convenient way to use a computer.

Avast and MalwareBytes are my two fav software and I run both togheter, they have free version which include full on scan.

^ numbers 1 and 3 on that list to the right of screen.

Most of the time when someone's facebook gets "hacked" or their gmail account - it's because they went on a site that looks like facebook, typed in their info, and got phished.

the problem w/ 2-factor authentication is that it requires you to give out your cell phone. Like I would trust these companies w/ my phone number

Just install the app on your phone, you don't have to use the TXT feature as I don't.

As others have stated, reformatting the hard drive is definitely a possibility. Afterwards, it would be wise to not allow anything to be saved in terms of Internet use. For example, I do not allow any cookies or a lot of temporary files to be saved linked to my computer. Also, don't take shortcuts in terms of allowing a browser to remember user names or passwords. Nothing beats human input, and I don't mind typing my information over and over as long as I know I'm doing as much as I can to prevent any spying.

Make it as hard as possible for things like this to happen, I've argued for years with Mac users in terms of obtaining viruses and what not. Taking the proper precautions with a computer is very much like taking care of a vehicle...keep that in mind.
