My local Autozone stopped carrying GC 0w30. I always used this oil because it was readily available and seemed to work best in my 02 Subaru WRX. The other full synthetics I've tried such as M1 5w30,10w30, and 5w40 T&S had a somewhat of a consumption problem whereas the GC 0w30 did not. Looking for something that is as close to the GC and is also readily available. I do not want to order anything on-line. OCI is 5k miles.

No problem getting GC up here in Canada, but if and when it becomes difficult to find I will switch to Mobil 1 0W40. It meets the BMW long-life spec which is a requirement of mine for any oil I use.

nothing if you ask me. people like it because it is green, or was green..............
not saying its not good, just not anything great

Actually, the chemistry of the original GC (green formula) was cutting edge.

You really shouldn't post when you don't know what you're talking about.

Ive been running Syntec 5w-40 in my 06 Wrx. Id guess that its the next in line from GC. As of yet I havent had any consumption issues

I'd use BMW High Performance Synthetic 5W-30 from your local BMW dealership. Its a thick 30 weight like GC.

Unless you suffer spool up bogging with it, I'd give Delvac 1 a try. It's slightly thicker than GC, but should be as robust and similarly priced. I can't speak to your consumption issues with the old T&SUV variant of it.

RL 10w-30 would be my other choice, but it is priced up market from either GC or Delvac 1.

Does such an oil exist?

Maybe try the BMW 5W30 that was mentioned. I've seen M1 5W40 UOA's with 4k miles shear down nearly to the viscosity of my GC with 7k+ miles (both stock FXT's). I guess that's close viscosity-wise.

My neighbor just swithced from German Castrol 0W-30 to Elf's Excellium 0W-30. Liked the testing figures (viscosity at 40C and 100C, viscosity index and flash point) he saw on both company's sites. Elf was substantially better performer.

Amsoil.com (or) click-on any Amsoil dealer sponsor-screen name here for pricing.

Maxlife full synthetic, available in 5W-30 and 10W-30 at many auto parts stores and in 5 quart container at some Wal-Marts. This is some great oil! Meets most German car specs as GC did. Actually, the Maxlife blend would do very well for 5k mile OCI. At current price of $2.40 per quart in the 5 quart jug at WM, it's a steal and good replacement for GC in some vehicles. Forget about it being a High Mileage oil and just run it.

I like the MaxLife Synth too. Syntec 10w-40 is worth a look as well.

Beat me to it. Maxlife Synth is also thickish in the 30 weight range and carries many of the Euro approvals. You could also try one of the viscosities of the new M1 HM oils.

That is your opinion, not mine. I know what I am talking about, and will post anytime I like, thanks.
Great admin job you are doing, give yourself a pat on the back buddy. Maybe it will knock some sense and pull the green out from your eyes.
