Title says it most, but let me set up the framework:
- I will try FCP Euro's free return feature, so initial price of the oil is not that much of a factor.
- There will be some losses probably, if the car but the bulk of it will be returned.
- I am within reasonable driving distance from FCP Euro, so returning used oil there is not an issue whatsoever.
- The engine is a bone stock, history almost unknown n54 with close to 216k miles on it.
- I daily the car, and never rev it much or anything. It's an old lady. The only loads it would see are pulls say from 2k to 5k rpm, and gridlocked traffic with a lot of stop and go. I'm on the East Coast, CT, it gets hot there but not insanely hot. So far, my oil temp has rarely exceeded 230F.
- I will not exceed 5k miles OCI. I am not interested whatsoever in long life oil and whatnot. I commute to work with this one, so it's mostly a daily driver
- I am currently nearing my first 5k, with Liqui Moly Molygen 5w40 from them, with Mann (edit, had put Mahle here, it's actually Mann) oil filter. I got that one because of the UV dye - I replaced some oil lines and wanted to track leaks.
- Not sure if I have some oil consumption, I believe it went from max to min on the (awful) electronic gauge (no dipstick
) in 4k miles. I added on qt of Mobil Euro 5w40 from my local Walmart. So I guess I have something like 1/2qt per 1k miles.
- I suspect I'd rather use 5w40, right ?
- FCP Euro has the usual suspects in 5w40 (Liqui Moly of all types), plus Fuchs (I don't think I want to try it), plus Motul. I'm very partial to Motul, and wouldn't mind using it.
So:
- Motul 8100 5w40 ? Currently available only in 5qt jugs. I'll need 2 extra qts to mix it with.
- Motul Specific LL-01FE 0W30 (hmmm...Dunno...) ?
- Liqui Moly Leichlauf 5w40 ?
- Stick to LM Molygen 5w40 ?
- Motul 300V 5w40 ? That one is $40 for 2qts, so I'll need to either cough for 8qt or for 6qt plus 1qt of something else. As mentioned - I'm ok with the initial price, just not sure if it's the right one for me. I'm not tracking the car or anything.
Thanks
