Which FCP Euro oil for 2010 535xi (n54 engine) with almost 216k miles ?

Title says it most, but let me set up the framework:

- I will try FCP Euro's free return feature, so initial price of the oil is not that much of a factor.
- There will be some losses probably, if the car but the bulk of it will be returned.
- I am within reasonable driving distance from FCP Euro, so returning used oil there is not an issue whatsoever.

- The engine is a bone stock, history almost unknown n54 with close to 216k miles on it.
- I daily the car, and never rev it much or anything. It's an old lady. The only loads it would see are pulls say from 2k to 5k rpm, and gridlocked traffic with a lot of stop and go. I'm on the East Coast, CT, it gets hot there but not insanely hot. So far, my oil temp has rarely exceeded 230F.
- I will not exceed 5k miles OCI. I am not interested whatsoever in long life oil and whatnot. I commute to work with this one, so it's mostly a daily driver
- I am currently nearing my first 5k, with Liqui Moly Molygen 5w40 from them, with Mann (edit, had put Mahle here, it's actually Mann) oil filter. I got that one because of the UV dye - I replaced some oil lines and wanted to track leaks.

- Not sure if I have some oil consumption, I believe it went from max to min on the (awful) electronic gauge (no dipstick :( ) in 4k miles. I added on qt of Mobil Euro 5w40 from my local Walmart. So I guess I have something like 1/2qt per 1k miles.

- I suspect I'd rather use 5w40, right ?
- FCP Euro has the usual suspects in 5w40 (Liqui Moly of all types), plus Fuchs (I don't think I want to try it), plus Motul. I'm very partial to Motul, and wouldn't mind using it.

So:

- Motul 8100 5w40 ? Currently available only in 5qt jugs. I'll need 2 extra qts to mix it with.
- Motul Specific LL-01FE 0W30 (hmmm...Dunno...) ?
- Liqui Moly Leichlauf 5w40 ?
- Stick to LM Molygen 5w40 ?
- Motul 300V 5w40 ? That one is $40 for 2qts, so I'll need to either cough for 8qt or for 6qt plus 1qt of something else. As mentioned - I'm ok with the initial price, just not sure if it's the right one for me. I'm not tracking the car or anything.

Thanks

Yeah, I've not looked into those oils particularly but can't help but to think any of those 5w-40's should serve your purpose well. Sounds like you'll get some value out of the FCP exchange.

Thanks All.
My question was mostly - due to the mileage on my engine (and it's a Bi-Turbo as well) - should I keep anything into account as a do or don't.
For example, would anything be counter-indicated at that mileage, that is otherwise fair game.

The regular FCP Euro oil change kits for my car amount to 7qts. Currently, 8100 in 1qt bottles is not available. So I have to get a 5qt jug of 8100, and add 2qts of something else - in a way where I can return all 7qts at the same time at the next oil change. So it becomes a bit of a game of vessels :)

5qt 8100 5w40 + 2qt can of 300V ? I'd feel like feeding caviar to a pig putting 300V, but at least I can return them together at the next oil change. And then - what should I get the 2qt can in ? 5w40 still ? Or 0w30 ? or 15w40 ?

Or, 3x 5qt jugs of 8100 5w40, and return only at the second oil change, as i end up going through all 15qts ? That's a bit too spread in time to my liking.

So - probably, I'll go for 5qt 8100 5w40, and 2qt of 300V. Votes are open for those 2qts. I can get it in 5w30, 5w40, 0w40, 15w50. I don't feel like 0w40 much. The other ones I'm willing to experiment with.

My old service manual shows this:

So, in summer, I can use 5w40 or 15w40, but never does it say I can use anything w50. But, old engine. Eh...

Also, I have the choice between Hengst, Mahle and Mann. I suspect - Mann ?

Thanks

Just go with the 7L Leichtlauf High Tech kit with Mann.
Not convinced 8100 is meaningfully better, and at 5K OCI it will not make a difference.

Would worry more about the FCP return policy when Motul changes to API SP.

It is not ideal to run x2 different brands of oils. I understand that you need to buy an additional 2 quarts but try to keep the oil the same. There have been some interactions here on the forum where one would say no 15w-40 in a Euro car engine but here it is in black & white. Although, 5w-40 should be all you need & seems it's not a big oil burner. Hengst & Mann have been good filters from my experience but I can't recall ever using a Mahle filter.

If I combine, it will be 5qts of 8100 and 2qts can on 300V.
The 15w40 is not an option, as it seems the only 15w40 Motul has on FCP Euro's site is break-in oil.
So it will likely be 5w40 300V.

I can still wait for the 8100 in smaller bottles to come back in stock. I have time. But the price per quart is the same as the 300V, when you look at it.

Incidentally, I just dug through my storage and found my six sealed bottles of Amsoil Synthetic 5w30 purchased in 2015 (got those for the Hyundai back then), but I won't mix them :D

Don’t mix 300V and X-Cess. 300V is not API certified and Motul specifically advises against mixing.

Any of the three oil filter choices are fine. They are interchangeable as far as quality. I use all three, depending on price...same with the same three brands for engine and cabin filters...though lately the OEM for cabin filters with BMW is MicronAir, so I am using those.

Thanks.
The one they list is 8100 Power. Is it different from x-cess ?

PS: Apparently - marginally different:

Now I'll be #$@ $@ !!!
THANKS !
I had my car's model set as a filter, and this thing was not coming up. I didn't know FCP sold X-Cess at all. It was only returning Power and 300V. And some 0w30 and whatnot.

So it's throwing this, which I don't care about at all.
In the cart it goes 😋
And, they have the 1qt ones as well. Yum-yum.

Thanks again.

PS: This, however, I find amusing:

Both are Gen 2.

Pics not representative ?
Anyway. I'm getting it.

Also you can get the BMW TPT 5W-30 which is a good oil.
I can only find it in 0w30 on FCP Euro's site.
BTW, the 10w60 used to pop on sale on a well-known site. Nothing currently, but it pops back from time to time. Would have gotten some if I had any use for 10w60. But that's beyond the point. I don't feel comfortable with w30 for some reason. I'm probably wrong.

For your purposes it doesn’t matter.
I have like 20qt of GEN2 API SN on the shelf, and I don’t plan to discard it 😂
API SP would matter only if you had LSPI prone junk from Hyundai or some Chevy Cruze.
