For the average person (who ever that is) the Rough Riders will serve very well. They do what they were made to do, and that is CUT.

Rough Rider, Kissing Crane, maybe Schrade. The makers of the "cheap" knives have really stepped up their game. Companies like Buck, Kershaw, Spyderco, Boker, etc. make lower end product lines in China. Sanrenmu is one of the companies that manufactures for several brands. They also make their own product line. I have found it to be excellent quality for the money and have a number of them. I recommend looking on eBay for Sanrenmu knives. Don't be afraid to order direct from China. Mine have generally arrived in two weeks or less. The steel may not be as prestigious as on the knives made in the U.S., Germany, or Japan, but if you maintain your stuff you should be quite pleased with the edge and durability.

I have a couple of cheap non usa schrade knives for everyday carry. If i lose it its no big deal, they are really pretty good. I almost like them better than my hen and rooster knife. The H+R knife is hard to open, the metal is really hard, so it holds and edge but takes forever to sharpen!

The H&R knives, like the Victorinox knives have very strong back springs on the slip joints. It helps ensure they don't close on you when you're using them, but they can sometimes be real thumbnail busters!
