Red Line GF-5 75W-140 - $13-$14.95 per quart on the 'net
http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=134&pcid=4

Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-140 - $16.50 per quart (less if you can find a dealer willing to budge on retail)
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/svo.aspx

Mobil 1 LS 75W-140 - $18-$20 at most auto parts stores
http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/P...LS_75W-140.aspx

Schaeffer #167 Full Synthetic 75W-140 - not sure on price
http://www.schaefferoil.com/full-synthetic-lube.html
PDS - http://www.schaefferoil.com/cmss_files/attachmentlibrary/TD Sheets/167.pdf

Motorcraft Full Synthetic 75W-140 is pretty high through dealerships (usually higher than M1 75W-140) and still requires a $7-$10 bottle of friction modifier.

Schaeffer's #167 is pretty interesting with its dose of moly. I use and really like Red Line 75W-140 so Red Line gets my vote, but all of the above are excellent gear lubes.

My only issue with redline is that my diff would get whiny after a while. For as great as their basestocks and adds may be, they don't seem to last long times in gear apps.

I ran RL 75W-90 in a built Ford 8.8 with a Detroit TrueTrac for a long while, never a noise issue.

I've been running RL 75W-140 in my F150 going on 40,000 miles on the same fill, barely any metal at all showing on the magnetic plug and still as silent as the day I put it in.

I put RL 75W-90 in the front diff of my Dad's 2002 Super Duty 4x4 (Dana 60) a good while back, no noise issues. I've never experienced any fluid or NVH degredation with Red Line gear oils.

as a EX mustang owner ( im chevy now ) those rear end work best on redline 75w140, many performing shop sell hp packet kit alway include redline 75w140. for all year round daily drive, high low temperture, abuse. u cant go wrong with that.

When I replaced the axle shafts in my DD '03 Mercury Marauder, (8.8") I used Valvoline Synpower 75W-140...that was April of last year and it's still quiet as a church-mouse, and my wife drives the car a LOT for her work.

Royal Purple MaxGear is available in 75W-140. I have used it for years in my Dodge truck rear ends( it is the OE spec fluid for 02+ 1500's )with excellent results.

Being the Mounty has a 3:73 limited slip, which ones don't need me to add the FM? I know the Mobil 1 has it in it already.

Red Line and Amsoil SG, not sure about Schaeffer.

Valvoline 75w140 already has it.
Royal Purple 75w140 already has it
Amsoil already has it.

Redline has gear oils with or without it included, so you will have to choose which one.

Regular Red Line 75W-140 has it, 75W-140 NS doesn't.

I ended up having Pennzoil 10 minute oil change do the rear end this AM with Royal Purple 75w140. It was $44.99 then a $5 off coupon made it $39.99 so it was a no brainer. I just stood back and watched. It was worth the extra couple bucks to let someone else do it. Chatter has diminished too! The old stuff was nasty brown but no shavings in it!

Did they have any other synthetic gear oils on their menu??

(I'm NOT asking because I have ANYTHING against RP, I am just curious since I would not have expected them to stock RP.

That's really cheap with labor included, did they pull the diff cover? Did you watch them actually pour Royal Purple 75W-140 in?

It has a drain plug and fill plug. I watched the whole thing. The 80w90 is on an air pump. The RP 75w140 is bottled and they pour it into a small bucket with a pump on it and fill it that way. He checked the level with a bent nail or something 3x and it was on the money.

Royal Purple was the only 75w140 they carry. It is fine with me. Not many choices in that variety anyways that can be found locally. Also the RP does not need any additional FM.

over 250 miles so far since the diff fluid change and the results are no less than amazing. Rear end chatter is gone. So much smoother when turning from a stop. I am guessing that it was the factory fill which was 75 or 80w90 as that is what the manual spec'd. That TSB update to 75w140 definitely was the ticket!

The friction modifiers in the new fluid probably have more to do with the improved performance than the viscosity. In any case, it is great that you got the OEM fill out of there.

I'm running RP 75W-140 in the final drive of my 3er track rat. No complaints.
