NASA readies Artemis II for a manned launch

Separate topic

You asked why the moon mission was going to the moon.

If you would like to talk about the federal budget, let’s start with the data point that NASA takes 0.3% of the total federal budget. 1/3 of 1%

3 parts per thousand.

There are other sectors of the budget, the other 99.7% of it, that could stand some trimming.
I made a similar argument during a classroom debate in Grade 7. I can't remember the numbers, but argued that NASA's budget was a miniscule portion of federal spending.

There was an anecdote in one of my old space books - following the conclusion of the Mercury project in 1963, and the inevitable complaints about cost, NASA commented that the program had cost $1.53/American citizen.

One man sent in $1.53 in cash and wrote "Do it again!".

There is some very good footage out there. The astronauts are now in the capsule. There are naysayers out there but I’m going to stay positive. There is some liquid hydrogen boiling off. Pretty cool.

Yep - much farther than anyone has gone in over 50 years - and the crew?

Two Astronauts who were US Naval Aviators: Victor Glover, and Reid Wiseman, Mission commander, who was a Tomcat guy.

Christina Koch - mission specialist

Jeremy Hansen - Canadian Space Agency, former fighter pilot.

We go back to the Moon, led by the US Navy.

All is as it should be. 😎

I want a space program AND a vibrant, multi-modal transportation system....and a few other things.

A pal's father (an old fashioned engineer...I'll leave it at that) once said to me, "There's so much which needs to be done in this country, I wish they'd start doing it". If that violates RSP, there's no hope for this land of ours.

led by the US Navy.
Cause they're the only ones who can read stars!

Watching this on the news.
Fingers are crossed that all goes well, since the launch is the most critical point in the mission.
I am old enough to remember the 1969 landing.
This thing is about forty feet shorter than the Saturn V stack and Saturn did not use any solid fuel boosters.

From my backyard...
