I know they are both Wix made filters, but is anything else different? Napa wants $22 for the FL1995 motorcraft sized filter for my truck, while Carquest is around $18. With my discount the Carquest filter is $9. Why such a price jump to get it in black paint?

NAPA isn't giving you the trade discount. CarQuest is. NAPA would still (probably) cost you more. They're very expensive in some things.

Sometimes I don't know how NAPA stays in business. Outrageous pricing on so many things. I can't imagine anyone buying tools or motor oil there. And the few car parts I have priced there - they were the same or higher than the dealership.
I do buy my filters there. The Napa Golds are only a little bit more than Canadian Tire's prices for Fram.

I went into a few NAPAs a couple of weeks ago and was shocked at some of the prices, such as Meguiar's NXT wax for $44! (it's $25 at Walmart!) But their oil filter prices are pretty decent, I got the Nascar Select filter for my wife's Honda for $4.99. That is the cheapest filter out there next to the basic Fram.
I think the franchise owner kinda sets the prices...the local CarQuest here is more expensive than the Napa when it comes to oil filters...however...CarQuest is usually a little bit cheaper on parts...not by much but cheaper...dunno why?...
Got a NAPA filter on Friday for the new Uplander...$3.37 for the "silver".
